the plate just prys off
undscrew shift knob, remove. take a small flathead screwdriver, wrap the bit in masking tape, pry up the outer border off the shift plate with just a slight bit of force, it will pop off easily, go corner to corner, then just pull the gated shift plate off. then you can also remove the plastic cover underneath that which probably need a cleaning, then see if anything is down in the hole!

1)remove the shift knob (blue arrow) by turning it counter clock wise. (just turn it, you won't break anything)
2)stick a flat head screw driver or your nail on the edge(red arrow) and pull that piece out.
3) This is the hardest part, either pull the shift plate to one side and pull it up. Or stick a screw drive in the two holes in each side and see if you can loosen it up (becareful not to break anything, please look and use your brain) Work on being able to pull one side out.
