Removed intake resonator

I took out the intake resonator today and I think my car is actually quieter. Did anyone else notice this? I don't think it's any faster, but I don't have my K&N until tomorrow.

Its the same level of noise during normal operations. Its only whenyou step on it, then you'll hear the diff.

any low pitched hum at idle?....that was my main concern....after i removed the res, i got a lot pitched hum at idle....i really hated it....i always wondered if it would help to drill some holes in the air box.....i'm really tempted to remove my INJEN intake and buy a TL-S stock intake from someone here and see if i can make it not hum without a resonator..... that way, it'll be louder than my INJEN...

check your hearing...the whole point of the resonator is to muffle the sound...AKA make it quiet. Thats like saying your exhaust gets quieter when you remove your mufflers...not happening. It will probably get louder when you get the K&N though.

Yeah I'm probably just nuts. I was hoping it would be a little louder than it is but I think the K&N will help that. I want it to sound throaty, but I don't like how loud the full fledged intakes i've heard are. Does comptech make an Icebox for the TLP? Is it quieter than say an injen intake?

Well I put in the K&N and it's much better now. I definately like the tone. One note: My resonator was different than the one in the how-to I'll try to take a pic of it for you. I wonder if it changed in '02 ?

Ya some are different. Do you have a Type S? If so yours would be smaller than the one in the DIY...glad you like the FREE mod though

ma man, maibe you removed the wrong resonator
The air filter wont make it sound better but breathe better

I once ran my car withought any filter/resonator...NOTHING...just straight from the Throttle body and it was the greatest sound ever. A 5.0 Mustang GT driver woulda shat their pants if they heard it...and Oh, it had better response than w/ CAI on.

I have a TLP, but the pics of the resonator box I saw were from a Type S. (I think I saw the pics on acurazine or something). And yes, I took out the correct resonator.

you might be confused then. The resonator is NOT the black box where the air filter is...Its this huge tank inside the bumer right under the box where the filter is...that IS the resonator. To remove this you must either remove the bumper OR work it out from under the car (one person did it)

if you did this, and noticed nothing when you floored it then your car is junk...i mean, i disconected the resonator on my friend's nissan '95 240SX and on another's '96 Civic ex and even these make a huge roar under WOT

First of all my car is not junk, and at least it is mine and not my daddy's as posted in an earlier thread by you. I did remove my bumper and took out the large resonator box and the little air horn. My airbox is still in place. If you read a little more in my post you would notice that I said I got my K&N drop in installed. If I had removed my airbox, that would have been a little difficult to accomplish huh? Also my car is not a 240sx or a civic. The TL has a higher level of sound deadening than either of those cars, and you cannot expect every type of car to react the same to a certain mod. Just because a civic got a lot louder after the removal of the resonator does not mean that a TL will. I do notice a slight difference in the tone of my car (and I like it), but in my opinion I do not believe it to be any louder than before.
