Remote start

How many people have a remote start hooked up to their factory system? How do you like it? I read a few posts, But was wondering since then if anyone has had any problems, or negatives about this. I know you have to hit unlock 3 times, and the car will start. But does it work like an aftermarket system? If i get in the car and hit the brake, will it shut off? I plan on having this installed real soon, and was wondering what everyone thinks...

I have mixed reviews with it...I have a Navigation System and the Remote Start has been causing some problems with my Navigation System and Onstar. StreetEffectz has pointed me in the right direction in solving the problem. It's convenient but the Remote Start is only as good as the person who installed it. My recommendation to you is get it but if you have a Navigation System , be careful..

Daaaamn...about how much does this cost to add...also...I hear that you lose the immobilizer chip functionality from the key, since they now emulate that from near the column.

Sorry to hear about your navi interference. Maybe it's the type/brand of remote start that you're using. I've got an aftermarket alarm system with Auto-Start (CompuStar) and haven't had any problems at all. I highly recommend installing one.

And no... if installed correctly, you DO NOT lose the immobilizer chip functionality.

Later,

V.

My question is, how are you supposed to drive if the car shuts off when you touch the brake? Do you have to kill it and then restart it? That would suck. Do you just stick the key in the ignition once you do get in? And then it wont die?

Once you put the key in and turn it, you shut off the remote start function, and resume normal operation.

I went to the dealer to get a valet key for my TL, they said that I have to have the key programmed in order for the key to work. I wanted to install my remote start but the key is $80.00 and I was told all I need is the valet key to have the remote start installed. The cat at Acura is telling me different, any ideas fellas? Do I have to have the valet key programmed or can I just purchase the key and install my remote start? The valet key is $25.00, help me fellas.

Well in my case, the Remote Start was causing the voice of the Navigation to make a hissing noise when it was suppose to say something and it caused the onstar to go completely dead. I also have the DEI 551T w/ they bypass. I never used the valet key so I had them take that key to disable the Immobilizer with the bypass. I also have the same start by pressing the 3 Unlocks. I had my installation done at Audio Designs in Hicksville Long Island. The work they did was clean and they were done in 3 hours. I believe it cost 250 for everything. I have to go there again soon cause my heat don't come on when I remote start...

Hey FastcarZ3, I dont want to use the factory remote for my remote/alarm set up. I have the viper 550esp w/remote start and I want to have that installed. Plus the keyless entry system I have on the acura is garbage. I really dont think I have to spend that bread on the valet key and have it programmed, I think they trying to rip me off. My car only came with one key, the dealer told me that they will reinburst me and pay for half the price of the key. What should I do though, do I have to get that key programmed? Also I dont have the Navi system in my whip.

Wow! I'm no expert at buying cars but I'm pretty sure you should have received three keys with your new vehicle (assuming it was new). Two "normal" keys and one valet key. In my case, I bargained for four keys (3 normal keys) knowing that I intended to install a new alarm system.

Check around with some other folks and if they also got three keys, my suggestion is to revisit your dealership!

Good luck,

V.

Well, I was going to reply with something else when it dawned on me that you may be the first 2003 with Onstar & Navi to install a remote start system. As for us 2002 Navi owners... I haven't heard anyone having a problem similar to yours while trying to add on a remote start system.

Maybe there's a few differences between the '02 and the '03... or maybe your installer just tapped into a wrong wire? I hope you get it figured out.

Later,

V.

vperkins2 I got the car used with 30,000 miles on it, but they didn't have 3 keys that's y they said that they will go half on the second key. I will just pay the full price and they will reinburst me the half. But no one answered my original question: Do I have to have the valet key programmed inorder to install my remote start/alarm system?

Damn, now I got to spend $80.00 for a programmed key. The valet key is only $25.00. I'm red right now.

The Owner's Manual says that you should have 3 keys.

Well, Had the remote starter installed today.... It works great! I haven't had any problems losing the NAV voice. I would have to agree with vperkins, that this is probabally something that can happend to an 03 with on star. Anyone with 99-02 tl's with navi have a problem with the nav voise dissapearing after a remote start was installed?

I've got a Clifford Concept 100 alarm with remote start installed on my '02 with navi and have absolutely no problems.
