Recommendation fluid to flash Transmission and Brake fluid

Hi
Friends
Yesterday i visit my mechanic for the general inspection and low beam headlight bulb replacement
After inspection he told that transmission and brake fluid needs to be replaced and also hood strut was also not holding the hood.

Kindly tell me
which fluids are high recommended for flashing/replacing transmission and brake & what are they called
From where i can get them (fluids and hood strut) cheap

thanks alot in advance for your precious help

A) Don't flush your transmission do a 3x3 with HONDA DW-1 ATF ONLY!
B) Brake Fluid needs to be properly replaced in each wheel with your brand of choice and flavor: DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 will do the trick.
C) Hood Struts can be found on (Click Link)
Amazon.com: Qty (2) ACURA TL 2002 2003 Gas Charged Hood Lift Supports, Struts, Shocks, Dampers: Automotive Amazon.com: Qty (2) ACURA TL 2002 2003 Gas Charged Hood Lift Supports, Struts, Shocks, Dampers: Automotive

Hope it helps.. Later!

Go to your local Honda parts department, ask them to price match internet pricing on a case of DW1 ATF. They will normally do a better price on a full case than by the single quart. Buy an inline tranny filter also while there.

As Skirmich previously stated: Don't flush tranny fluid, but do the drain & fill method !!!

The tranny fluid and brake fluid replacements are a simple process. Check the "DIY" sticky for tips.

^ You will need 9q DW-1 for the 3x3.
Brake Fluid needs a little more than 1.5L to replace completely but brake fluid is cheap so buy 2q = 1.98L so you will have spares.

They are different temperature Ratings being
DOT 3 the Weakest
DOT 4 the Upgrade
DOT 5.1 the Strongest

DOT 5 < DONT USE IT! NOT COMPATIBLE!

But they come up in price the higher the DOT Number so its up to your wallet.. Make sure though if buying the DOT 5.1 that its in fact "5.1" its really important as DOT 5 don't work with our braking system and can destroy many seals! DOT 5.1 is what you want dat point 1 is really important.

Just get the DOT4 brake fluid. A single tranny drain & fill requires a tad bit over 3 quarts DW1.
You can have the 3x3 done in 3 separate stages if so desired. But, buy a case to save $$$.

buy 10 or 12 qts to do it right
total per change approx. 3 qts to 3.5 and you want to make it perfect when done

read owner book or see on here the correct book procedure for change-
drive MAX 5 minutes using each gear then stop and drain fluid again- repeat until done
total capacity is 9 qts of which it will give up 3 at a draining

if you have ANY slippage of trans now do NOT proceed
average mechanics= especially guy who didn't know how to do your headlight
should NOT be trusted on the atf condition
Ask a Honda or acura parts guy or tech for opinion
How many miles on trans- is it a replacement trans ? any known fluid change- color and smell now?

brake fluid get dot4 for normal humans- it may say dot3/dot4 as its really 4 and covers all of 3 specs plus more

5.1 is for racers,, not average driver and its 15$ a qt
plain ol or synthetic- your choice of Dot4 of any brand name is fine at 3 to 5$ per qt= get 2 as said above
note SPECIAL!! TL brake flush/bleed order is LF RF RR LR
driver front then clockwise due to abs plumbing
failure to do this order means it was not done right
trust no tech that cant tell you this special order

Your best bet is to purchase the Honda OEM brand of PS fluid at your local dealership.

for sure Honda on the PS its one of the real picky systems
see our diy section for help,-,attach a garden hose sized hose OVER the return line for ps to res (use hose clamp ),,pumps out into 1 gallon jug

Place cardboard under front wheels to lower resistance while turning them
May be a good idea to fully flush system 2 times if 100kmiles or more and never done before
free owner books with diy-capacities, help at www.owners.acura.com
