Recent Purchase

Hello. I recently purchased a 2003 TL S Type and would like to know how to determine whether it needs timing belt replacement. Previous owner up in years can't remember if or whe done.

How many miles are on it? IIRC it's due every 105k.
If <105k on it, I'd maybe do it anyway, based on age. If over 105k, I'd maybe still do it as a precaution.

Has over 200k mileage. Previous owner gathering records of all repairs. Hopefully will help in determining timing belt co concern. In the meantime I think I'll change out the external tyranny filter

No mistake...that transmission is quite tyrannical.

are you performing the timing belt work yourself?

I'm gearing up to do that work soon but I also want to look at replacing many of the seals along the way: camshaft seals, oil pump, crankshaft and dipstick seals. not to mention the bearings, tensioners serpentine, original water pump and power steering belts.

btw...you can inspect the belt through the timing belt cover.
