Rear view mirror replacement

Hey guys,
so picked up a replacement rear view mirror because the idoit previous owner tried to tint the current one and failed horribly. Any ideas how I can replace just the mirror and put on the replacement? Can I pop out the original and put in the new one?

This is the current one.

This is the replacement

Can I take out the moveable ball? And replace the crappy one with the new one..well pop out the mirror itself from the ball.

Honestly man when I had to replace my rear view mirror, I just replaced the entire thing, arm and all. I put in a wider auto-dim rear mirror from some old Lincoln. Had to figure out the wiring but it still works.

I was able to remove the ball when I was just messing with it, but I could not install the new one at all. I'd highly suggest just replacing the entire thing.

It's an auto-dimming mirror. No one tried to tint it. What you're seeing is typical of how they fail. Talk to a shop, they should be able to tell you or ask Acura Service Dept. Since it's wired in, you probably need to remove it from the arm and disconnect the power wire to it and then swap it out. Is there a retaining ring that you can remove?

It was actually super easy found a step by step and was able to get it off. Me just over thinking things like I do.

Ignore previous message about the rear view mirror. Having issues with my 2000 tl.

Hey guys,
im having issues again with misfires. New mufflers and exhaust holes fixed which it was running too rich. I’ve already replaced the coils and plugs. Frankly I’m dumbfounded as to what it can be.

Old thread, but had to add to this rather than create a new one.

2G TL Type S with auto-dim mirror. Used the Acura shop manual instructions and a T20 torx bit to slide off the mirror (removed the plastic cover piece over the wiring first).

Replaced it with a flip up/down mirror from a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE. Perfect fit, same amount of mirror surface area, more compact. The auto-dim was failing, year-by-year, to dim as much as it did when new, and the addition of rear window tint messed with the dimming logic (as in, it wouldn't dim enough).

Hey thank you so much. Don't mean to bump an old thread but this was a major help. Autozone and O'Reilly's don't seem to have a manual flip up/down mirror that fits. I too have a tinted back window so and was never a big fan of an auto-dimming mirror when I could easily flip it up/down as needed.
