Remove Rear View Mirror?
Remove Rear View Mirror?
Hi, I cannot remove my rear view mirror. The plastic socket broke and it is hanging down by the wire. There is a metal tang that I cannot budge, but when I removed all plastic parts, not even a screw was to be found. Any ideas? Thanks.

There are photos and instructions for removing the rear view mirror.
That was a big help when I replaced my mirror.

Thanks!
The photo removal instructions are great! I will try today. Any way to fix the mirror plastic socket or do I have to buy a new mirror? The mirror dimming works fine. Where can I get the best deal on a new mirror? Thanks again.
I'm pretty sure that you would have to replace the entire mirror since replacement mirrors include the plastic socket and the mouting base. I doubt that you can buy the socket by itself.
But because of the broken plastic socket, you may be able to get a free replacement from the mirror manufacturer Magna Donnelly.
See the thread I linked above for more information on the free replacements. Everything you need to know for requesting one is in that thread. (Some of the original mirrors have leaked a caustic fluid which damaged the interiors of some TLs.)
Magna Donnelly sent me a free replacement within days.
If you have to buy a new mirror, you should be able to find one for about $100. I think that's about the price I was quoted by Acura of Escondido before I found that i could get a free replacement.
Avoid buying a used one since you might get the old version with the potential leaking problem.
Finally, be careful not to apply too much force when removing the mirror. You can crack the windshield if you apply too much force. (FWIW, my old mirror came off very easily.)

Still having problems
Thanks for the link....I will contact the mirror manufacturer. However, I have a CL, not a TL. Nobody in the CL forum had an answer, so I assumed the TL mirror would be the same. They are not. The mirror is attached directly to the windshield and there is no attachment to the roof. Further, there is a clip sticking out the back, but I can't get anything to move. Any ideas here?
I see. I thought you were referring to a TL.
Did you see this thread over on the CL forums?

I found it with a search for "rearview", mirror" and "remove".
Good luck.
