rear seat cover plastic button

Ok, on the vertical part of the rear seat just around where someone's waist would be are a couple of plastic buttons. I noticed that one of them were missing and it left a little (2 or 3mm) hole in my leather

I took it to the dealer and they said that those little plastic tabs hold the seat cover on and are new to the TLs so he didn't really know how they attached.

They have to order a whole new back seat just to fix my little plastic button missing problem.

Does this sound crazy to anybody else? Not only are these little nubs in a very easy spot to be accidently ripped off by someone's belt purhaps, but a whole new seat to fix ???

I would think you could order just the fasteners!

I know what you're talking about but I was under the impression that was for the child safety seats...

I suppose your right, no complaints about a new seat but only after four weeks of having the car...

Black was my first choice but decided it would be too much work keeping it clean

Austin519: I thought the same at first but these fasteners are really cheap parts, you could snap them off with your pinky. I wish they were more rugged.

I had the same thing happen to me. One of those buttons got snagged on someone's clothes, and popped right out. I took it to the dealer, and they took it to a leather repair place to patch the hole, thankfully under warrantee. Now it looks a bit funny as there is no button on one side, and the stitching that the leather repair people did is not that great. It's not too noticable.

I'd post a picture, however my car is still at the shop waiting for a new trannie.

The buttons do not hold the seat cover on (they are thoroughly stitched in the back). As Austin519 suspected, the buttons are visual reference markers to show you where the anchor points are between the seat cushions for a child safety seat that conforms to the LATCH system. If you draw an imaginary vertical line down from each button to where the back seat cushion meets the bottom seat cushion, you'll find an anchor bracket slightly hidden from view. This is the only purpose of these buttons.

Interesting, so can we safely remove them and have the left over 2-3mm hole repaired at a leather shop?

Because I would rather get rid of them now to prevent an accidental 'tear' from someone getting in/out of my car a little too rough.

Resurrected thread.

Anyone else have this problem and is it easier to fix it these days?

I just noticed one of mine was missing. Must be from the move. Can you just order a new one and push it in the hole? They seem to have a back piece too since the remaining covers are very snug up to the leather.

Indeed this is an old thread, lol!

When I went to the dealer to get it fixed they couldn't order just that button, they had to order a whole new back seat.
