Rear Passenger Side Rattle (Long)
Rear Passenger Side Rattle (Long)
I've been hanging around this site since summer 01 but just recently registered and this is my first post. Thanks to all the member comments on the forum I bought a NBP back in 11/01 and have loved driving it ever since. 7,000 miles later and I still get a smile every time I start driving.
The only problems I've had were the squeeky moonroof (fixed by dealer) and now the rattling in the rear passenger side. I read other posters say it might be the headliner or C pillar. I followed their suggestions and stuffed cotton along the width of the headliner and stuck cardboard in between the C pillar and rear deck. Made my gf drive the car while I sat in the back playing Sherlock Holmes looking to see if that fixed it. It didn't
But I did find where the noise was coming from (take a look at the link
When I pushed at that spot I hear a sqeak/rattle noise. I tried pushing the same spot on the driver's side rear door but no noise. Those who have said the noise only occurs when it's cold are absolutely right. I heard the sound this morning before I went to work and once the car got hot under the sun I pushed the same spot again and no sound.
Should I just spray a ton of WD-40 behind the crevice where the window is or should I just take it to the dealer? Im kinda nervous in having them tear the door open and breaking something else in the process. Is there anything mechnical/electrical back there that I can damage if i did use the WD-40? With my luck it'll probably be hot that day and they won't hear anything and think I'm nuts.
BTW thanks to everyone on this forum. I've learn a great amount of info from all your posts.

i think it is so funny that we drive around in our tls just thinking about where a specific rattle is coming from. i catch myself doing it all the time. but when one looks back on the situation you just have to laugh. i mean who drives around town like sherlock holms trying to find rattles in our cars. WE DO!!! the average person would just turn the music up. Real car enthusiest(sp) tune these fine automobles till they are flawless.
