Rain sounds loud, am I the only one to notice?
One of the first things I noticed when i bought my Acura was how loud rain sounded when hitting the car. If it wasn't a summer day I would have sworn it was sleeting.
None of my other rides ever sounded like this. Am I the only one to notice this phenomena.

Sorta...
I can say that there is always a lot of noise from the sunroof in rain or shine. I find that closing the sunroof shade changes eveything (this is especially true when talking on a cell phone--less feedback/background clutter with the sunshade closed)...

Yeah, I sorta noticed this too. There is a definite "click" or ticking sound when it rains, and I can swear that it's coming from the driver side window (perhaps the rear window on my side) and not the sunroof. I think I hear it consistently each time it rains. It's not the normal pitter-patter of raindrops, but something a bit more distinct.

You guys have to remember that when you have a quiet car with less road noise than others, that you hear other noises more prominently.

I might agree with that, but this is a very distinct clicking sound that seems to emanate in very close proximity to me. Again, it's somewhere on the left side, and I believe it's around the driver-side window. It's almost like someone is tapping the window with a key.

It has not rained over here in Northern Cal.
Yup ... if the car runs too quiet, you will hear something else from outside.
BTW, how do the members in NC cope with the Hurricane Isabel ?

Planetside.. That's exactly what I was trying to describe!
It's a ticking noise like ice particles are hitting the car.
Thanks for the validation.

i hear ya man. it sounds like hail or rocks hitting the car. very disconcerning...but i don't think it's anything to worry about. sounds to me like it comes from the A-pillar (not sure about the name, but whatever the bar is that is in between the front windshield and the drivers side window.). If anyone has any idea what would cause that, i'd like to know. but you're not crazy. lol

I hear it too when it rains. I was thinking at the time, for a car this quiet the rain sure does sound loud. If you have ever been in a barn with a tin roof when it rains, sounds like that, plinking noise. I don't mind it, don't think it is a 'problem', but did notice it.

that's one of the first things i noticed too when i got my TL. Sounds like its coming from the drivers side window, or in between the drivers side, front and rear window.. Maybe the water is hittin the black part there??

Thanks guys, its nice to know I'm sane. Well almost sane.
It does seem to predominately come from the area of the "A" pillar although the noise from the windshield is loud also.
I don't think its coming from the sunroof.
At any rate I don't consider it a problem but it certainly is a peculiarity.
The funny thing is it doesn't seem to get louder with speed where the impact of rain drops would be heavier.
Strange!

After my 2400 mile road trip this weekend, I drove through 250 miles of rain and I can tell you first hand that it sounds like little needles hitting the car. I think it's coming from the side mirrors. If you tap on the front part of the side mirrors, they sound really hollow. I think when the rain hits it, it resonates in the cabin a bit. My Accord mirrors sound more solid, but the TLs sounds hollow. Try it, you'll see what I mean.
Next time you drive in the rain, put your ear close to the window by the mirror and it sounds even louder.
Oh, and as the rain subsided, I cracked my sunroof. I figured my deflector would push most of the rain away, but after about 10 minutes, I got drops on my leg and realized that water was dripping where the A pillar and headliner meet. I was like...damn!

Hey - this could be the noise we're hearing - water going down the A pillar drains. The next time it rains I'm going to check around the base of the sunroof for water.

I haven't had my car long enough to have any experience driving through the rain. From what I am hearing it can't be any worse than my old Civic but then again we paid $30k for this car. Still a good value though.

I thought that my car was just as loud as my accord, which shouldn't be.
Also, the fact that they added more sound insulation to the car after the 2000 model year points me in the direction that I got a cheaper car than I should have.
I remember getting a 2002 loaner and it was distinctly different, enough that I wanted it instead of my car.

i went out this morning and was flicking my car to see what sounded like what. the rear view mirrors sound very hollow and i could easily see how that is where the noise is coming from. also, the piece of metal that makes up the door frame (if you're looking at the roof, the part just below the rain duct) sounds prettty tinny as well. i was flickin that and could see how it might sound like rocks hitting it if it were raining.
so in conclusion...go flick your car.
just playin.
