Question Radio codes are $120 to get fixed?

Hey people,

Just got back from the dealer cause I didnt start my car for like a month and the battery went dead. I gave her a boost and its working fine but the radio doesnt work so I gave the dealership a call, got the radio code after being asked how many times if I purchased the car from there (figures). So you know after I got the code that it didn't work, so the guy said to bring it in this morning, and now he is saying they charge $120 to fix the problem but since I have the code its $60 bucks. Shouldnt this thing be covered in the warranty? He said the mech. has to look into the problem and take it apart.. im like huh? Also I asked the guy to look into the spoiler tail light its been out for like 2 months after I got the car but never had the time to bring it in.

I purchased the car like 9- 10 months ago at 66,500 miles on the car now is 71,000 miles. Also got the acura care warranty, now my question is, isnt this covered under the warranty and also it says my car is covered till 2009 with the acura care until the milage of 166,5xx. I always thought it was up to 100k miles overall and then thats it?

I always thought things like this was covered, am I right or wrong? Do I have to pay for the radio code and the spoiler brake light?

Thanks
Tamer

Other members have had similar problems entering their radio codes in. They fixed it by disconnecting the antenna.

The car is already at the dealership, I will keep that in mind if it does happen next time. Thanks guys.

But do you think thats fair that they charge a price to do that shouldnt it be covered?

You will have to ask about that being covered under the warranty. If it was the normal 50k warranty then it would, not sure if the extended covers it. You will have to read the fine print

good call fsttyms1 I just figured that some other people had this problem, and wanted to see if they got it done for free or did they have to pay for it.. seems like its an issue for a few people. Don't think they should charge people money if they have the code and its an issue with the radio itself since it wont take the code. I'll see what they say and repost.

yea dude..there is no reason why you need to pay for the code. That taking the whole thing apart is BS. It happened to me before and I tried calling the dealership for the code..code didn't work. They told me to bring it in and they got it working for free. This is coming from an Acura Dealership that has a pretty bad customer service reputation (Acura of Pleasanton in Bay Area, CA).

any easy way to get the code is to do the following:

before insersting key in ignition hold the 1 and 6 button on the radio
turn the key to acc position continue to hold the 1 and 6 buttons
write this down and call any dealer and give them the serial number and they will give u the code.....this is what they do.....they charge you 120 bucks to do this...they actually dont pull the radio to get this code

guys, read the first post, he has the code. It's just not taking it when entering. Next time use the antenna method, don't waste your money at the stealership.

Nope thats your serial number. TGive that to the dealership and they should give you the code...... after bombarding you with a million questions.

Im happy to say that it worked! i gave them 2 numbers though, one was the number on the back of the radio (serial?) and one the 8 digit code that appeared when i did the "1 and 6 hold..." routine. Called the dealership, and they gave me the code. No unhooking of the antenna required! Thanks guys for the ideas and help!
