I've also made a custom power cord that runs under the headliner and down the A-pillar into the fuse box, so there are no dangly bits of coiled wire.

When I don't have my detector attached, I can easily stow the power cord completely under the headliner and you'd never know that there ever was a power cord there.
Ah, the good old days! Yup, I did the same thing you did, except I had my detector mounted near the rear view mirror but behind the thin strip of window tint that blocks the sun. So no one could see there was a detector there while I was driving, and when I got out of my car, I took it with me. No wires, nothing.

At the distance and position they're sitting at, they're not going to use radar to lock onto vehicles, instead waiting for the clueless driver sticking out like a sore thumb (and there are plenty of them) to speed past...

And don't forget the cops in airplanes. They can spot you from a mile away by calculating how fast you past certain lines or check points - they just radio in and get the cop cars to reel you in.

BTW, when did the Passport 8500 come out? When when the next generation come out (or how long is the current model to stay)? I'm thinking of getting one sometimes in the future, but don't want to buy one and find out after a couple of months that a newer, better model is available. Any info appreciated!

I think it's been close to a year and a half. Also, like the V1, the software in the 8500 can be flash programmed when improvements are made (at a fee of course).

So I don't forsee the 8500 becoming obsolete for a while.

Yep, I'm going to try to mount the detector a little higher. My concern was not to block the sensor window behind the tint. I just looked today and I think I have about 1.5" vertical space to go before that happens.

Where can the V1 and/or Passport 8500 be purchased at?
