To which wire did you splice them too? Please let me know, and if can take a picture so I get a idea.. Im sick and tired of the radar wire hanging to the side and then connected into the cig lighter. Thanks!

you could just wrap the wire under the headliner and down the window. it should tuck in there nicely.

looks good but i would be worried about screwing up my mirror. i would imagine those wires are pretty small and even though the radar detector doesn't take alot of juice i just don't like the idea of it. using the button to trigger a relay would be your best bet.

clever none the less.

Cool. I have mine hardwired into the cruise control activation button. This way, I could turn on/off the radar unit easily. But I just leave the cruise control always activated, so the radar detector turns on with the ignition.

Nice job! Nice and clean...yes a DIY would be nice for this. I've been thinking about this, but I wasn't sure what to splice into.

actually i didnt spice anything. i found the connector plugs +/- wires and just kinda placed them over the conectors and pushed it in. i really didnt see any point in actually spicing those wires. its in there good and not going to come loose anytime soone. the wires on either the car or in the radar detector were backwards. it took a few minutes to troubleshoot but came out good.

i didnt slice anything so that is not a problem and it wont mess anything up that is what fuses are for. the wires in the radar detector are tiny huge pain in the A$$. i didnt dont like the idea of stretching the wire all the way around. just hook it up there. it worked out nice ill take the lights out again and show pics.

DIY ok well im not good at explaining things but here it goes.
remove the lights/sunglass holder. there are 4 screws. 2 are in the sunglass holder and 2 are above the light lense. pull it out unplug the lights. small harness just pulls out. there is another harness above that. (auto dim mirror). unhook it. there was a mixup in either my car or the power for the decector. wires didnt match up. detector had white and a red wire. it looks like its 100 gauge tiny. the and car had a black and a white one (i think). ill look maybe tommorrow and get some pics. i had to do some trial and error. in my car. the red wire went on top and the white went on bottom. while the car was white on top and red on bottom. confusing. i had the plugg disconnected and put the wires in the slot according to my trial and error. and connected the plugg with the wires in the inside making contact with the prongs. kinda a pain but it works great. ill get pics to make this easier to decifer. i know i dont explain things well but i hope this helps alittle. if you know anything about electronics you should be able to do this no problem. if you dont it may take some time but it is fairley easy the difficult part was trial and error. which isnt really all that difficult.

That is pretty cool. I would like do the same thing. Question. Does the radar still point out the back window? There are a lot of d_ck head copz in the DELMAR area and I want full strength on my radar to pick them up, not because I speed all the time but my front window tint....

I found out that the radar detector works better if its installed lower on your windshield, thats why i installed it lower and ran the wires where the dash meets the windshield and down into the fuse box and piggy-backed into a fuse that turns on with the ignition. worked really well just my

i still get plenty of room in the back window. it sits just below the front tint. and i have plenty of back window for it.and you can lower it if you want. i have the full length of the cord so i may lower it but where it sits now unless you are looking for it you wont see it it just looks like part of the car from the out side.

its supposed to work best in the middle of your windsheild. with our cars our back seat is kinda high. and to get the back window right you need to be about dead center in the window.

It may work better lower in the windshield but if a cop pulls you over and sees it forget about talking your way out of a ticket.

Yeah that's where I have mine now in the middle of the windshield, but that damn cord is hanging down plugged into the cigarette lighter. But that's o.k. because I got the escort 850x and on the power adapter there is a bright flashing led light when the radar goes off, incase i have the music too loud i will see out of the corner of my eye the blinking yellow light. Highly recommended havnent been pulled over yet. The local PD around my area use the KA band and never fails...When i drove to Florida K Band was activated a lot and always picked up the cops hiding behind the trees in N. carolina S. carolina & Georgia down I-95. Had to hide that shit in my arm consle in Virgina though F-ing illegal in Virgina what is that shit.......

like it said if you know anything about electronics at all you should be able to do it. it sucked for me because my hands were cold and shaking and those wires are tiny.

hi,

Thanks for the tip. It would be wonderful for some more detail info on connecting the wires/power/etc. also was wondering whether this mod is somewhat permanent (as in acura factory wires being cut) or easily removeable?

Thanks again, Looks awesome.

Check this article posted last March- This was done on both the CL I sold in October, and the new 03 TL-S

Don't worry about the power- the circuit handles it fine. I stripped the wires but did not cut them, and yes, the power lead runs better if you come out from the headliner to the radar.

My unit seems to work better mounted high than low.

ya you get a better detection up high. specially through the back because the seats arent blocking the beam.

I did the same and it looks awesome. I have the remote unit behind my steering wheel, and it is run behind the dash so again, clean look and great ease of use.

Well actually it woks bet higher up for radar and as low as possible for laser. If its a good detector (like the 8500 or V1) they have such great range it wont make much of a difference for radar. I prefer mine as low as possible for the laser threat

Buy the hardwire kit for 20 bucks. It has the same display as the cord ens with teh mute, you just wont have the spiral chord running across the dash

Looks good.

basic rule...always remove your radar detectors when getting stopped, if you have time and don't make it obvious. Put it in your armrest instead of reaching over to your glove compartment. Even if you were supposed to get a warning, if they see the detector, they'll write you up anyway in most cases

Well if its a good detector and your paying attention on top of it you should never get pulled over

Plus, when its mounted up near the rear view mirror, a cop wouldn't even see it. Just put it on mute. Most of the time my passangers dont even know where it is lol.

the one reason i don't like that position is because it's hard to look at the v1 info screen. i prefer to have it on the driver's side.

you can put it anywhere you would like up there. its just nice not having it right in the middle of the window where its blocking window space and gives you great radar detection. i really dont get many lazer hits on me. so i dont worry about that too much i still get a few hits here and there with lazer.

Its not too bad, I could see the arrows, strenght, and band. Only thing I really can't see is the mode its on. But I gotta admit that it was hard to get used it being there. As soon as I hear it beep, I just glance over and see everythign I need to know.

so you just take the radar detector cord and splice it and just push the wires into the auto dim mirror (the blue one) or could i just plug them into the map lights (the white one) clip???

hey i saw that you got your V1 hardwired to the auto dim mirror

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ighlight=radar

did u need to get the Direct-Wire Power Adapter with Mode Memory from Valentine ???
i know they have a tap ...
did u just splice the connection cord, and just connect it ...
im gonna get the kit if u did use it...

if not you're gonna save me $20, cuz all i'll need is a small fuse.
also if u could tell me colors for the poisitve and negative that you used from the auto dim mirror or the map lights.

any help / opinion is appreciated.
