Raced an E-Class

It was a more square E, with rectangular lights, from a few years ago. I am not sure what engine it was, but it sounded like a V8.

Spanked him a few times from traffic lights, really bad.

Then he caught up to me as I was cruising on an open stretch of highway and kept pushing it. We took it past 100mph and he was slooooooowly gaining, but I think he would have lost anyway, I was temporarily in a slow gear. But I had to exit, so I broke it off.

What e-class was it? I spanked a few current e-320s a few times. But be careful with those e-430.

yeah, 320 should be no problem but those v8 could be killing. 430 is definitely a fast car

320s can be a good race...their all not that slow. my curent car is a clk 320 and i used to have a tl-s...i must say the tl has better gearing during take off as mercedes drive by wire system gives alot of lag when you launch but on the highway...no way a tl-s can keep up with the clk 320...not to mention the clk 430...

I would have to disagree with the above statement. I am looking into CLKs and test drove one last Saturday. CLK 320 has a 3.2 I6 thast pumps out 215 hp and 229 lb-ft, 0-60 @ 6.9 sec. We all know what the spec and time for TL (S). The transmission felt a bit sluggish in the CLK 320, compare to the TLS. However, the CLK was very solid and luxurious, no question about that. I am looking forward to test drive the CLK 430, that should be a more fun than the 320.

Here's my opinion...

Having driven the E320, 430, and CLS (I assume identical to TLS) the TLS should be able to beat a 320 off the line without any problems (but you're not going to kill it as some of you are claiming). The TLS is actually not bad off the line, with a good launch I don't doubt it beating lots of cars, it's just that to 80, 90, or 100+ that some people claim "I beat a 540, GS4xx, M3, etc"...yeah right!

The 430 is a different beast, be careful.

I agree with Asiankidd, on the highway the 320 will be a handful for the TLS, where the 430 will walk away from it, but then you never know cuz there are a few guys here that beat M3s, 540i, and GS4xx on a regular basis...

I don't know what E Class that was. Off the line, it sounded like a V8, but I left him waaaay behind me.

On the highway while we were going at 100+ mph, he was slowly gaining. But I was slowly backing off the gas pedal too as my exit was coming up. And my exit has no ramp.

Are you kidding me? The E55 is a freaking beast. It should've left you like you were driving in reverse, let alone a pinto.

Most likely it was an E320, or a C-class with E badge

Can you define smoked? You may have had him by a bumper if you launched better, but hey you were there not me.

In my 540 (I think its just a tad faster than E430) I have never lost to any TLS/CLS to any speed off the line. On the highway, not even funny.

I think any V-8 can take us, my dad in his X5 beats me in the high mph. I take him off the line and that thing has sooo much torque it passes me. Also our 3rd gears sucks big phat one.... My dad's 740iL is quick too. It's not all about 0-60, I think 60-100 is what really makes a car fast.

haha, and remember the ticket evolaerok got (hopefully my memory is correct...)?

actually i think if you want really fast 60-100 it's all about v8. it can push out lots more juice to push the car further at that speed.

just like my friend who has a s55 (whatever the amg version of the s class, the top model), going from 80-130 he took no time in doing it

I still race, but on a random basis. I don't go around looking for races. And usually in a very very rural area. Like the other day I raced my ex fiancee after seeing her in a "hickvillish" area.

With a smile on my face i would like you to know...the clk 320 isnt a I6 but a V6 0-60 is indeed listed as 6.9 but their very conservative on the times.....i took my car to the at fontana once 76 degrees sunday around 9 am on my 2nd run i pulled a 14.93 (gtech) 14.86 (track) r/t time was 2.015 i believe....but yeah ....as you can see gtech was a lil off but the 0-60 flash time is stuck in my memory like stone....6.48....also mercedes transmission is indeed an automatic but their one of the BEST god damn slush box out their only surpassed by ferrari paddle shift......perhaps the test drive you took was on winter mode.....instead of summer mode? also it take time for the transmission to adapt to drivers habit.....10-15 miles i believe.....and at highway speeds....goddamn the clk just wants to keep going not like 4th gear on the tl.....on the clk your in the engine's sweet spot at any speed over 80 off the line the tls and the clk can duke it out.....all depending on the reaction time and launch...but it will be very close....im not saying the clk wins but its will be controversial.....anyways highway...clk will own the tl even with the 320...that from a guy who had both car at the same time....

S55 AMG is a fast car, for its size... 1/4 miles in low 14's, 0-60 in high 5's....

Most of the German breeds(BMW/MB/Porsche), with anything above 3L V6 would have no problem keeping or even dusting our TL/TLS... and that includes V6 powered C320/CLK320/SLK320....

New benz's r a waste of money. they're built in america now instead of germany. so ur parents overpaid for the new cl when the old one is built with better quality.

My bad, it is a V6. I agree with you on the highway part, CLK does like to move. It was my initial drive so I can only refer to what I experienced with the power and ride of the car. I would love to give the 430 a shot though.

I was thinking that the CLK was a heavy car, but boy was i wrong. Very nice car indeed!! I saw this CLK on another forum, and i think its justy sweet also... you should do this. Chrome of course!!

only the ml is made in the us....since when did others car from mb get made in the us.....my clk was ordered and shipped from germany....buyers of mb of all class except ml class are able to opt for the german pick up which includes 2 nights at a hotel near struttgard germany and then you tour their factory....and watch mb likes yours get made and then you pick up your car drive on the autobanh and to the black mountain where it is setup to be shipped across the sea......

i was in the process of getting it drop but lots of problem with the xenon system since it raises and lowers according to the suspension....and the only way to drop it correctly is thru tuners like Brabus and AMG or blha blah which cost like an arm and a leg......rim.....i want that too but at this point in moving from car to car right now....originally it went clk ad hs present...then tl cus sister needed a car...and i wanted the tl cus i hated the profiling of the clk when i went out..and parents worried about it to so i got the tl and now parents getting the cl 500 so now the have extra car so they selling the tl to my aunt and im back to the clk......and now my other sister is getting her license soon so a new car is about a month or 2 away and i still am persistant about the tl so hopefully tl-s in anthricte grey.....

yeah asiankid is right, I think only the ML is made in the US, so does that make the TL/CL a waste too cuz it's made here?

Last time I checked the same damn robots made the car here or in Germany/Japan.
