any time now would be good. dont go in a panic cause your over the recomended change time, but iff you can afford to any time soon would be good.
at teh same time get your water pump replaced too.

I have 170,000 on mine, and have inspected it a couple times and its in good shape.

regardless of how it looks, change it out now. (from the opinion of a mechanic want-to-be).

I just had mine changed last week. I had them replace the timing belt, adjusters, idler, waterpump, accessory belts, coolant, and flush the brake fluid. My 02 has 108,000 miles on it at the time of service.

what happens if you don't change it?

does it break, does it screw up the whole engine. if you are driving, do you loose control of the car and die... does it explode... does it make your car faster...jejjejej,, you know what i mean.

I believe the TL motors are interrupt motors so if the timing belt does go you could be looking at some big time repairs if a piston slaps an open valve.

This is the list for the timing belt package:
Belt
Adjuster, AutoM
Adjuster
Idler, Timing B
Water Pump
Belt, P.S. Pump
Belt, Compresso
Coolant

Total for this was $950.00 (Parts & Labor)

I also had the brake flush and tranny drain & fill.

Yeah tell me about it. In junior high, my dad's car lost a timing belt at 77,000 miles or so. My dad's a gearhead, so we fixed it ourselves. Turns out 3 or 4 valves needed to be replaced. I can only imagine how much $$$ we saved by tearing apart the engine ourselves.

Is $950 a regular price for every dealer or is it different from dealer to dealer? I am about to get mine replaced.

Do you have to go to a dealer? A friend of mine, took his to a mechanic, and got the timing belt replaced for like $400.

I think my brother had the timing belt in his Accord V6 replaced at the honda dealer for like $680 or something like that. Maybe you can get the TL's belt replaced at a Honda dealer

You can get it cheaper elsewhere. I had my car in the shop for the tranny recall so I just told them to go ahead and do all that at the same time.

I wouldn't say it's being paranoid, just cautious... and they have every right to be.
The cost of parts and labor for a new head when pistons and valves collide is just a "bit more" compared to the cost of replacing the necessary parts for a timing belt change.

US$950 for a timing belt change?! I remember changing it (twice) for my '91 Accord and it was C$450, including 15% tax!

Anyway -- it's important to change the timing belt 'cause it can cause serious damage to our engines if it snaps. Why cut a corner on the most important component of your car? I don't know if Honda engineers are being conservative on every 100,000km to change a timing belt ...

they are, they typically put alot of leadway in things. That and they go by the typical AGE on a belt that has 100k on it. the average driver (due to statistics) it would take 7-8 years to reach that mileage, and in that time the belt would get dry and start cracking, hence thats why they want you to replace it.

i have a 88 prelude with the original timing belt on it. the engine still runs strong and has 275k on it. im not going to replace that one. i want to see how long it will last

I guess the point should be...its not by miles 100%, but more by the age and obvious visuall condition of the belt itself.
