Quick Oil Question

You know the little sticky you get that shows your next oil change date and mileage..is it ok to drive even though you surpassed the date on the sticky?

ya that is the normal 3000 mile interval. Nowadays...you dont have to do it that often unless you want too. some have gone over 8000 miles with quality oil.

Ahh..let me re-phrase (stupid edit feature)

On the sticky, it says "4/01 - 9000miles" is when I'm supposed to get my next oil change, but I am currently at 8,020miles..and being the current date is 4/12..do I need to change the oil? .. or do I just wait until my mileage reaches 9000miles. Thanks.

oh ok....the date/mileage you see on the sticker is 3 months and 3000 miles after the previous change...that is the old standard...I mean old. So I just use that to guage how much I drive and I know when 3000 miles is...so I know when 6000 miles are - thats when I usually do it. With todays engines and oils...3000/change is just a waste, now it wont hurt anything but your wallet so do what you want. But no, unless its been a year or so dont worry about the actual date - its just there to get people in for more business....so dont fall for it!!!

Thumbs up

I wouldn't get hung up on the mileage so much , some people change there
oil every 6 months regardless of the miles they have driven. The reason
you change your oil in the first place is because oil gets dirty , sometimes
it gets dirty faster after a few long hard drives . What color is your oil ?
If its starting to turn a little brown I'd change it , along with the filter.
