Question Quick AEM Intake Question - Poll

This topic is for mblock66. Here is his original post:

I just ordered the AEM intake without the Bypass. I was wondering how many people have this setup in their car. By that I mean the intake WITHOUT the bypass!!! And does anyone know of anyone that has even gotten Hydrolock b/c they didn't have bypass? I haven't seen one case and I heard don't bother with the bypass b/c you have the same chance of getting hydrolock with the stock intake as with the AEM with no bypass.

And here's my reply from the original thread:

Anyway, I purchased the by-pass just for piece of mind. My intake will be on all year round, and since we get all 4 seasons up here (even though winter decided not to come this year), I went for it. For $40 I figured I'd protect my $6000 (or whatever it costs) engine... regardless of how remote the chances of hydrolock are. As for the CAI vs. Stock intake, that's not true. The stock intake doesn't have the filter by the fog light like the CAI does, so the chances would be higher with the CAI. The overal chance, even with the CAI is very low, but I did it anyway, just in case.

So mark down one (1) for bypass.

If you ever did hydrolock your car then chances are you did something
so stupid that you would have hydrolocked it anyhow no matter what
intake you had. ie: swimming pool, ocean, sea lion exhibit at the
local aquarium, etc...

Bypass Valce

Does this take away any performance? (Has anyone seen a dyno with and without it on)?

I bought a BPV from Tim but never installed it. I live in San Diego so it's not like we get a lot of rain here.

But from what I understand it is practically impossible to hydrolock your car so you might as well save the money. If no one has ever known someone to hydrolock a car it is pretty safe to say you have to drive through a river to do it.

I don't believe a word you say, after all, you were the kid that bragged about a supercharger by Vortex on the RSX-S.

Anyways, I didn't go with the bypass valve. It looks like a pain in the ass to install, and I didn't wanna cut the AEM pipe.

PLUS, if it rains, I'm usually in the rover, NOT the Type S.

Listen don't start the whole RSX crap again. Didn't you see my clarification post on it. Not one person bothered me after that so, like I said I will be posting pictures. Go read the clarification post on CL site.
