Smile Projector Foglights

This is a bit of a DIY, but I'm going to be doing it in pieces.

I decided that since my passenger side housing was cracked, and all messed up inside that i would retrofit a pair of projectors into that small little slot.

The materials I'm working with are:
A pair of fog grills from an audi a4 ( bought on amazon)
A cheap pair of projectors (50$) (also amazon)

The Audi grills are way too long, and a little bit too tall, so your gonna need to cut them a little bit.

The end Result should look like the Shorter of the two

These are the projectors i got:

When you put them in the housings:

More to come when i have time to take off my bumper! Its too cold up in NY right now.

Let me know what you guys think!!

Before you go any further stop now and get yourself a set of OEM Ford Fusion fogs. They can be had for 20-30 bucks more than you paid for your "cheap" fogs. They are the best out there. Check out the link below of them.

If you have any you pull it salvage yards near you that you can walk thru go look thru them. Often times you will find them there and most salvage yards dont know how good they are and will sell them dirt cheap.

You could buy temporary replacements from a junkyard as a place holder

Pick up a used set and do all the work to them. That way you arent without a car with headlights and any setbacks wont matter.

I will see about that as time goes on. Ive only had the car for a few months and it has 110k miles.

Im trying to stay to things i can move from one car to another incase disaster strikes

Thats a great idea though. I didn't think of getting a cheap used pair. Since I'm going to be removing the bumper anyways, i might as well just take my good pair up and begin while i do that!!!!

What year ford fusion fog lights work best? What else is required for holding them in place securely?

I'm not fsttyms, but any Ford Fusion (06-12) foglight will work out great!

As far as placing them, I would suggest JB Welding them into place. IMO, that would be your best bet as far as strength and longevity.

Rather than starting a new thread that would have had the exact same title, I figured I would ask here.

Has any 02-03 TL owner ventured into the projector foglight darkness? I see that the 99-01 guys can do Accord Fogs (not projectors) and now what the OP has done, but I have only seen one 02-03 member with projector fogs (IS300 yellow projectors IIRC)

Does anyone know if anyone else has attempted projector fogs with 02-03 foglights? That guy with the IS300 fogs had a company named Lightwerkz do them for him. I know they are quite short in height, but I think it could be done!

I figured I would ask before I find out for myself. I already have 4 projectors, so what is 2 more anyways?

This was forever ago. I have since changed out the 4300K to 3000K. I may eventually go back.

Here's also a thread I started where I put in some Phillips DRL in the space before the fogs. I love them.

Yes 06-12,

And as for what to hold them in place? I wouldnt use JB weld or anything like that. I would make a custom bracket to fasten them into place. That way you have some adjustment and can easily remove if needed to repair or replace.

Very true, disregard what I said! brackets would be a much better solution!

If you can get the mounting bracket for the Fusion (edge/mkz/millan/flex etc..) then i would plastic weld/epoxy that to the bumper. That way you would have the ability to remove or adjust (the way i mounted my accord fogs). Other wise i would mount a bracket to the frame rail that protrudes out in that area to mount them.

Does anyone recommend one over the other? It's between IS300 Fogs and Fusion Fogs. IS300 fogs are easy to come by, and relatively cheap. Found a nice clear pair on ebay for $87.

Fusion fogs are more popular, and also relatively cheap. Only thing I have with those is, they are exposed lenses, rather than enclosed, so the lenses are usually chipped due to rocks from the road!

personally i would go with the Fusion fogs. I have come across 4-5 sets that the lenses were in great condition. There is a member on HID Planet that gets them and sells them for a decent price

For anyone that is ever considering a good pair of projector foglights, check out www.hidplanet.com and find Jp7! He sells brand new OEM Fusion fogs with halogen bulbs for $89! I just paid for mine, so projector fog retro will be here shortly with 3000K fogs

Ive been worrying about how I'm going to mount mine as well. Kind of just want to wing it when i take the bumper off to do that and some day time runnings. If i figure out any way to mount it well and adjust then ill post it.

It has been snowing so much I haven't had a chance to do anything!! =(

Got the foglights off of the bumper and cut the back to fit the 2" projector. It turns out, you shouldn't really need to fabricate any sort of aiming device, because if you JB Weld it to the existing reflector, you will still maintain the foglight aiming capability!

As long as you get the aim of both projectors within a reasonable tolerance, I would imagine you will have some ability to get them aimed properly!

Will post pics soon!

How are you wiring your lights in? I have the wiring diagram, and it seems like just splicing the wires on should do? Any other thoughts?

My 03 came standard with fog lights, so the wiring is all there for me. I just need to buy H11 bulbs for my HID kit. The only addition to the wiring of the fogs I have made is a relay harness.

Mine came with it too, why did you need the relay harness though? wouldn't it just then run off the stock relays if it was directly connected?

Relays are a safety precaution. Instead of frying the whole stock wiring, you fry just an inline fuse, if something were to go wrong. It's always a good idea when upgrading halogen wiring to run HIDs.

Good idea to use dielectric grease in those connections.

Finally got them almost done, and I think it's gonna look pretty damn good! The blacked out theme will look pretty good with my blacked out headlights and grille! Wasn't all that difficult to do either! I just need to seal the back of the light up (right now its held there by blue painter's tape, as you can see) and put the new Lexan glass in!

Output on these suckers is pretty impressive too! Just debating whether to put color matched 5000K bulbs in them or a 3000K bulb!

A lot of guys on HIDplanet are saying 3000K morimotos look great in the Fusion fogs, so I guess I am gonna have to see for myself! Having so much bright white light could possibly get annoying!

My 03' already has the wiring in place for fog lights. If you are asking how to connect a relay harness, then here: you connect the stock male 9006 connectors to the 9006 female connectors of the relay harness. You hook up the power wire to the (+) on the battery, and the ground wire either to the (-) on the battery, or an existing ground point. You then plug in the male 9006 connectors from the harness, into your HID Ballast, and then hook up the bulb and you should be good to go!

Does your TL have a fog light switch already?

Those look amazing. Wish I had the time to tinker like that haha. Weird how it's taken 11 years for someone to finally attempt this!

The TL foglight switch will fit in the CL just fine. All of parts between the CLs and TLs (with some exceptions) are interchangeable.
