Ok, when im in shifter mode, and in fifth gear going about 30-40mph, and at about 1500rpm, some times it holds the rev and then kicks it in when i try to speed up, or sometimes when im speading up it almost seems like the car tryes to slow down on its own when im speeding up... anywone else have this prob???
also when im in 4th gear on the speed shifter side adn going 80 and give it gas no faster acceliration, but cant drop into third, i lost to a freaking probe cause of that??? help me...

 

All is normal.

1) It kicks in ... Does it mean it down shift to 3rd... If yes, it is normal.
2) If you are accelerating and you lift off... if would slow you down a bit as the TC is still locked... normal.
3) Above 80 in 4th u can downshift to 3rd if you lift off ur right foot for a split sec when you are downshifting, otherwise, the ECU will override your request and keep it in 4th which is normal. You can the 4 indicator flashing!

Have same symtoms with my 2002tls w/7200 miles on it. While running very slow at about 35mph and in regular auto the engine appears to slow(rpms drop from 1500 to 1000) as if brakes have been applied. Feels like a cutout on the engine or sorts. This is not an upshift cuz the rpm's decrease. Haven't taken it to the dealer yet..but plan on it soon......

 

I dont know if its an early warning sign or what not. but either way, if its intermittent, you know its gonna be a hard time to show it to the dealer.

as for the transmission actually having problems or failing, trust me, as any fellow busted tranny member can attest, when it happens, you KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that its gone. the car jerks VIOLENTLY and lights flash on.. !!

 

I wouldn't say violently...at least not at first. Mine kept slipping out of 5th...it did this for 4 months. It started out just doing it about once a month...then got more frequently...until it finally slipped out of 5th and jerked about 6 times in a row until it slammed back into 5th...that time it was close to 'violently'...but, the other times, no.

 

Do the tranny death cause any other problems? Cracked motor mounts?

 

That sounds to me like one of two things are happening...

1) Grade-Logic is kicking in. This makes the most sense b/c you mentioned that the brakes feel like they are applied. Grade-Logic slows your car down using engine braking.

2) The torque converter is kicking in. When you're in a gear cruising the torque converter locks up and drops the RPMs. This helps you get better MPG.

Sounds to me like your car is fine......

 

hmm, I'm not sure about that one. Possibly not. I haven't heard about anyone mentioning that as yet.
