Problems with a TL :(
Hey guys,
Im soo pissed. The car always drove like new, today I drove all day. I filled up at a very commonly used Mobil gas station. I had a quarter of a tank, so I added another quarter.
One hour later, I hit some pothole, 10 minutes later my car started to shake, 30 seconds later it turned off on me, while I was at a red light.
My Engine Light went on and my TCS went on. I started the car again, it started shaking, 1 minutes later it turned off. I waited like 15 minutes, started the car again, and drove it to the nearest auto shop. Luckily I made it. I would of been able to tow a car since it is lowered and has a kit.
The mechanic started checking the car, and everytime I would start it, it would shut off. He used some gas/liquid to clean the line, white smoke was flying out of my exhaust. TCS went off, the engine line staus on.
He unplugged some sensor, and the car would start normally, the moment he would put that sensor back on again, the car will shake and shut off. It some sensor that is connected to the throttle body. I guess the Oxygen sensor.
The mechanic is telling me that the gas I filled up with contained water, and thus the happening, He also told me that my sensor is done. As I witnessed myself.
I got very lucky that this didnt happen on a highway.
Im so pissed...anyone every experienced this?

That sucks! Did you try contacting that Mobil station to see if any other cars got screwed up that day? If they did I smell a class action law suit. You would think there would be a better chance of that happening in some rural mom and pop brand gas station...but Mobil? I guess it can happen with any brand.
yeah man, you got a case. start searching around the forum, i think a few people have had this problem and they got the station to cough up the money for repairs.
i remember reaing it on the forum... so i know it's here.

This is just a thought
, but do you think maybe the local machanic you went to didn't really know what the problem was so he stated the obvious..."you just filled up with gas, so it must be the gas". Maybe you should have the dealership tell you it was that before you go after Mobil. Are you still under warrenty??

no, im not, the mechanic has a TL as well. Whatever it is, Im sure that the sensor is bad, because when unplugged my car runs fine, and the moment you plug it back in, the engine shakes and shuts off.

Maybe its not the water, but my car is misfiring. So far I know the sensor is bad.
i dont know anything, but after the car ran idle for like 20 minutes, it started to run cleaner and less shaking. My exhaust smoke was coming out like in short intervals, weird, but after running it got a little better after I added dry gas.
who knows, i just hope everything will be alright.
