Problems with my Remote Starter

So here is the story,

I bought my car about a year ago (2001 TL) and it only came with 1 key and 2 key fobs (one factory, one aftermarket). So I decided that I would get more keys cut so that I would have extra in case I lose my only key. I purchased 2 keys off of ebay, while being promised that they had the transponder chip in them (which of course they didnt, my words of advice, check the keys as soon as you get them if you do order them off of ebay).

So here is where my question comes in, I had two regular honda keys cut and programmed, to which they work fine, but now my remote starter does not work, it only cranks the starter and doesnt start, yet as soon as I try it with the key, its fine. Now the remote starter worked fine before I had the keys cut, but now it doesn't.

I don't know very much about the remote starter, the keyfob has the name "Gabriel" on it, but I have not been able to find anything on the internet about Gabriel and remote starters.

What I am asking, is does this seam normal, or have the programmed keys messed up with the settings of the remote starter.

Any help that you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

i dont think that the new programmed keys would affect the remote start. i would say that there is something wrong with the remote start.

does it lock and unluck with the aftermarket keypad?

you wouldnt have any idea what bypass module is in the car?

if they used a universal module like the 556u then they car might have kicked the key that is placed in the module.

if its a vehicle specific bypass module, then it most likely did the same thing, or they sometimes will kick out the key that has been programed if the car sees both the new key and the key programed? make sense?

i would swing by an install bay and tell them whats going on, and to check the bypass module. and leave them one of the new keys.

just for shits and giggles. put one of the new keys in the ignition but dont turn it, just leave it. and then use the key pad to remote start it. if it cranks up then thats your problem. if not let me know.

Sounds like something went wrong with your bypass module. That is what the immobilizer in the key is for. If someone tried to start your car with an unknown key, the car will crank but it will not start it up.

I guess one way to check it is to try remote starting your car while you are in the car. Not sure if the pre-2002 TLs are the same, but in my 2003, there is a icon on the dash that looks like a key. I can't remember exactly at the moment, since I always remote start my car, but that icon should blink if it does not find the immobilizer.

Just trying to say that he can look on his dash for the icon that looks like a key. If he auto-starts it and it blinks then its not reading correctly. So he doesn't really need to actually put a key in the ignition.

No need for the hostility.

The aftermarket keyfob works for everything but the starter, its sending the signal and the car tries to start.. but just turns over...

I have no idea what module is in the car, but I'm going to be looking for it this weekend.. where is it most likely located?

And trying to start the car with the key in the ignition didnt work, the interior dash lights flashed 4-5 times... that was it...

Thanks for all your help, any more suggestions?

thats very weird that it wont start with another key in the ignition, unless the car is being confused with the older key still.

the module is going to be attached to either... 2 wires running into or near the key cylinder. or a wire that runs to the key cylinder and it actually wraps around the cylinder.

if you find it and it says 556u or universal or is semi large, kinda the size of a deck of cards, you can open it and find the key and replace it with a programmed new key.

if its not that, then your kinda sol, the module will need to be reprogrammed and i dont know how to do that off the top of my head. but if you can find the model i can look it up.

drop the under dash and the steering wheel cover. it really all depends on the installer, if they took the time to hide wires, if it will be a pain in the ass. if your not comfortable with it i wouldnt try it. have a bay take a look at it.

let me know what goes on.

it could also be something as random as a tach needing to be relearned, but its most likely the bypass module and your car.
