This is the problem with OT!!!
I posted this 24 hrs ago http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000771.html and I have seen some posts go unnoticed before, but this question is definitely up someone's alley.
If I posted it here, someone would have moved it to OT. So I made the decision and posted it in OT myself, and I doubt anyone even saw it.
AT least Tim's taking care of it by redesigning the forum. Thanks.

With the answers I've seen answered here, I'm sure there are several members who can. I just don't think those guru's visit OT as much as the main discussion. Plus, I have seen members post that they don't know, just like you did, Ed. No responses seems fishy on a car related question, on a car related forum.

dude, it's TL related forum... only talk about TLs there, and if you do want to get into some details about things like that, it's great that some ppl can answer it here for you, but you could also try to search on the internet. also, people visit the TL Discussion the most because people post everything there, and we're having a problem of having too much posts there in a short period of time, that's why moderators are moving posts that are not TL related to OT and other appropriate forum.

I don't disagree with you guys and I have no intention of flaming the moderatorss at all. But since Tim will redesign the site this way, I can't say I am wrong or that I am alone. I was just stating that there is a catch22 going on here, and I'm glad that Tim took care of it.
It's all good ma brothas.

Well first off you need to understand what the offset of a wheel means.
In a positive offset layout, the hub mounting surface is torward the front or outside of the car. In a negative offset the hub mounting surface is torward the back, or near the brakes. A zero offset would be mounted even with the centerline of the wheel.
Now with a front wheel drive layout, the wider the tire is, it must be accomodated with a higher wheel offset to prevent to ensure the wheel "tucks" and does not rub. This limits the maximum width a tire can be correctly installed in.
In a rear wheel drive layout, its safe to assume the car has already been stamped with performace in mind. Since the rotating mass is not near the engine bay, and weight transfer will be maximized to the wheels moving the car, wider tires will typically be needed. You need to understand suspension basics (which I'm not ready to get into today) to know that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In a sense, negative offset rims (deepdish), allow a few positive factors like wheel strenth under high power, and straight line suspension engineering. With a shorter rear axle wider tires can placed in the back as well, requring the negative offset. (Just look at a F1 Car).
I dunno if that makes sense but its a bit hard to explain, anyone feel free to correct me where applicable.
