Problem with navigation system

i have just ordered the newest version for our cars and i got it yesterday. when i put the disc in the player in the trunk, i see that it loads the data into the system. alpine says that drive around until i hit a verified location or point and then i could use it. i live in the houston area and i've been driving around for the past day and i'm pretty sure one road would be a verified one, but i still am not able to use the navigation system. when i press map/guide button from the dark screen, it would just say that either no DVD is installed or the DVD door is open, but it's closed and installed right and carefully. does any know the solution to this problem? it seems like i'm going to have to return this if it doesn't work. anyone had this problem and fixed it or know about this let me know. thanks.

First
Key to accessory, open nav dvd door, remove dvd, reinsert dvd, close dvd door
Start car and wait, wait wait- Make sure you are in a clear area away from buildings or obstructions to the sky

Mine said drive around but I waited a few more minutes, then it knew where it was. Drove around the block and up the street and back home- all was well.

When unit finishes install it says the hardware and software version numbers- if you did not get that far- try above rememdy.

Please let everyone know what the solution is- many have ordered the new disc and have not heard of any probs yet

You can also go into setup and use the toggle to locate the curser at your location and tell it- we are here.
If all else fails- call Alpine again and ask for a specialist

they say they don't have any tech support for this and call Acura Client Service or bring it to a dealership and for them to look at it. oh yea when i first put the disc in it loaded into the system, but it doesn't show up the hardware and software version numbers.

At this point you (after writing down radio code) may as well do a disconnect battery- wait 15 minute- connect battery, set radio code- then do an install on the nav disc again,

Have you asked a local car audio shop- they put in gps and such- maybe they know a trick. Perhaps a cable behind the dvd box got loose- I know the whole unit was replaced in my car a few years ago when it suffered from heat failure.

Almost guarantee you the dealer wont know a thing,

I am guessing that you did already call them and ask if the is any Servive Bullitin on this matter?

Put in a call to Acura Customr Care at 1-800- 382-2238 - 5
They will know what to do or where to point you- they want happy customers and right now you are not AND you are telling people online!! They really dont like that!

The more I think about it, the more I think the antenna wire for the gps has been dislodged somehow, check everything you can, maybe a package in the trunk hit something.

I have no idea where the gps antenna is- too cold to go out and look at my car!

Anyone-where should he look ?

yea i called that number and they told me to go to the closest Acura dealership for them to look at it. i called the closest one which is about 25 minutes away and i scheduled an appointment with them on wednesday. i'll go check too see if anything is not right with the wiring or anything, but it shouldn't be cause the system loaded the information in already but it just doesn't work.

Right-So you say it now has loaded to where it says the version software and hardwared numbers show up...correct? That is a major step in the procedure

And it still wont lock on???- that got to be antenna- the only reason it would not get signal

And you checked the disc for fingerprints, dust, scratches anything at all, maybe use an air duster/blower, or even better, a cd/dvd player cleaning disc.

Try Anything at this point, the dealer will say you need a new one of these, several hundred dollars please, thank you sir

It wouldn't make sense for it to be the antenna.. how would that be dislodged at precisely the time he got a new disc? The navi antenna is under the rear shelf, btw.

no it doesn't say the hardware and software numbers. it just loads up and goes to the black screen with the time in the middle.
