Potential Problem with Tire Rack

I orginally ordered pilot sport ps2 tires in 225/45/70 and recieved an email from tirerack saying:

Thank you for your order. We have reviewed the load capacity of your requested fitment and have determined that the tires you ordered DO NOT meet the load requirements of your Acura. A 225/45 series tire does not hold enough air to properly support the vehicle's weight and could be potentially dangerous. These tires are 500 total lbs. short according to Acura specs.

As a result it is not a size The Tire Rack will sell for your vehicle.

A 215/50, or 225/50 17" tire will properly fit the vehicle and is what we recommend. If you would like me to change the tire to the proper fitment, please provide the model that you would like and I will be happy to change the order and ship it today.

Please contact either myself or customer service to correct the order. I will keep it in hold status until we hear from you.

Thanks again.

Michelin specfies on their web site that our cars can have a 225/45/17 sive with a 35 psi inflation instead of 32. Instead I ordered the sport A/s which I do not want and have already been shipped. I am going to reject the package and I hope tirerack will not give me any trouble about credting the shipping cost since they misinformed me.

they're right... and after all the attension Ford and Firestone got on throwing lower load range tires combined with a too low of a recommended psi, they really have no choice but to cover their a$$. If you want to go against their recommendation then just order your tires for a honda accord with custom wheel or any car for that matter.

I agree. This is a CYA issue.

That being said, a 225/50/17 is the proper size for the car and will probably handle better anyhow. Only problem is very few tires come in that size. If the tire you want comes in 225/50 then it's a no brainer IMHO.
