Play video on your navi. kit now available
Many people have asked how to play video on 1999-2001 Acura or Honda navigation screens.
I've spent hours engineering a design for my own Honda navigation display using industry leading parts. It's working so well, I've decided to make this design available to you!
Please see a post with the same title in the Electronics Forum (on this message board) for more information.

I remember a memeber burning their screen with video. Is there any guarantee that your method wouldn't do the same?

I'm using a leading car audio manufactures video decoder. Designed for their own mobile LCD screens. It's a quality part. It doesn't interface with the existing fluorescent backlight, so no chance of burning that out. In fact, I recommend setting the brightness in navigation mode then switching over to video.
Now if you watch video in your car all the time, instead of your home TV then you could possibly burn the screen out, but that wouldn't be covered :-}

Sounds good to me. I would like to see pics of the clarity of the screen.
The car doesn't have to be in park to watch video does it?? Coz lexus has that bullshit function on the LS430 and it's wack.

Does it matter if it's the old HD unit or DVD unit??? Mine is still the HD unit, and I know the wiring is different between them!
The video signals are different too!
What model is this kit for???
If there is no doubt it works with HD unit, I will get one too!

Hey SteveStMS
I look at the 99 service manual ....
the navi monitor has 2 plugs to it, a 5 pins White/Green plugs and a 20 pins Blue plug as you mention.
and yes
a white wire (R Sig) to pin 8
a red wire (G Sig) to pin 9
a black wire (gnd) to pin 10
a blue wire (Gnd Sig) to pin 17
a yellow wire (B Sig) to pin 18
a green wire (C Sig) to pin 19
What I think people concern more is that will the monitor burn out after awhile?

I would like to know if the screen will burn out after a while also, this is my main concern as well as many people who already voiced(written) this. But I'd be interested in getting me one of them kits.

Let's see if I can overcome the burn out screen issue people seem to be concerned about.
The RGB output of this decoder is .7v P-P with 75-Ohm load. This is a industry standards for RGB. Measuring the Honda/Acura navigation output on an oscilloscope it appears to be the same.
Burning out a screen would be a fairly serious issue. One I would stand behind. If this happens to anyone with this unit, I will notify every owner right away.
Only months of operation will confirm that there are no hidden issues. To the best of my knowledge and abilities the electrical characteristics are within the acceptable range.

The schematics I've used to design this where from the Acura 1999 and 2000 model service guides. I'm using this on my Honda 2000 Odyssey mini-van.
For those with the HD navi. can you answer me this simple question. How many plugs do you have on the back of your monitor? Is one a 20 pin plug with a white wire in Pin 8, red wire in Pin 9 and black in pin 10? (with connector plugged into the display top row pin numbers are 1-10 left to right and bottom row 11-20). There should also be a blue wire in pin 17, yellow in pin 18 and green in pin 19.
Can anyone take a look? If the answer is yes, it will work. If not I'll do research and figure the proper pins to use. Stay tuned.
Successful operation guaranteed or your money back if you return the kit.

Place your order by sending me a Private Message with your mailing address.
I'd sure like to know how this 'other guy' blew out his navigation screen. I'd bet he built his own decoder using TTL logic gates and overpowered the fluorescent (FL ILL+) backlight. My decoder is made by a major electronics manufacture and electrical measurements match that of the navigation computer. In fact, I recommend adjusting the brightness via the navigation 'setup' menu, then flip the switch to video mode. You will find the brightness setting (Day, Night or Automatic) will still work in video mode. I don't intercept the FL ILL+ wire.

I'm just curious what you do for a living. How did you figure this out? Nice job, are you working on getting sound through stock system? I may have parts that can help you.

I work for Bill's company in Redmond, WA. as a Program Manager. In my spare time I'm an electronics hobbyist and mobile entertainment enthusiast. Please tell me about your device to hook into audio? Is it a RF modulator?
As for BlackShadow's question on price and warranty. The price is $180 + $10 approx. shipping for the kit. It includes the decoder, installation instructions, completely wired navigation/video switch and all wire connectors.
Tools you will need:
1. Screwdriver (to remove the navigation display unit)
2. Wire cutters/stripers/crimping tool
3. 1/4" drill bit (to make a hole for the switch).
All units will be tested before shipping. If your unit doesn't work for your suited application, I will refund you money if the unit is returned in good condition. The decoder has a manufactures warranty of 90 days parts and labor and I'll replace your decoder and/or switch w/wires should something go wrong within that warranty period.
