plastic dash piece repair help

hi guys,

so i got a little overzealous and bought super-fine grit sandpaper (1000 and 2000) to remove some pock marks from the "banging" tip to get some dash lights to work again (not a bad suggestion, does work til the bulb dies), and now there's a light grey-ish finish to the area ;/

wondering if any of you have tips on how i can restore the original finish of the black plastic dash piece, or am i SOL?

thanks.

due to my impatience, i tried this black shoe polish and it's not half bad. i am going to pick up a bottle of 303 aerospace protectant near the end of the week, and see if it will restore the original colour.

it sure seems the colour is there, just that even 2000 grit isn't fine enough.

ugh,

hadn't used my dremel in a while and thought i could buff it out. unfortunately i had left the setting on a very high rotational speed, thereby overheating the 'spot' and creating a slight indentation.

new panel time -_- ;(

just as a postmortem: i found maguire's quick interior + 2000 grit 3M works *really really* well for SURFACE wear (not dents). wet sanding ftw.

tested on my (old, and uggo) bezel, and then proceeded to buff out some minor wear on the one i got from the salvage yard. hopefully this helps others who see signs of surface wear on their bezel.

yo @fsttyms1, is there a proper match for the 2G interior in the SEM Color Coat product line you mentioned previously?

not sure if landau black or matte black are "it"

would like to get something that restores the shine now that i removed the imperfections. surface is smooth just looks like it's missing that grainy shine

Are you talking the hard black plastic pieces? If so no, there isnt a color that is an exact match. the plastic has almost a metallic flake in it and its not a gloss or matte finish. Its somewhere in between as far as paint finishes go. Best bet at this point is to pick up a used one in good condition or vinyl wrap or paint all the other pieces along with that one to match.
