hey there, so the doorlock was not functioning before you bought the car? It could be that the door lock wire is disconnected behind the door panel.

honestly i'm not sure when it stopped functioning - for all i know, it coulda been that way when i bought it, but i have no idea, i've never used it, obviously

i just noticed it when one of my passengers brought it to my attention

if it is the "lock wire", is that something pretty easy to fix myself, assuming i can get the door panel off??

I can only think that the wire harness became lose or someone else forgot to plug it in. If its not that, it may be other electrical problems. To get the door panel off, you have to unscrew like 3 screws on the door, including the one where the interior door open lever is. You have to slide the door lever assembly to the right then unhook the metal connecting rod behind the door lever assembly. After that, you pry the bottom part of the door panel out slowly, theres like clips that pop in and come out easily with some force. Once you get the bottom half of the door panel loose, you have to push the door panel upward, since the panel is basically hanging on the jam where the window is. Hope that made since.. once you get the door panel loose, you can only bring it out about 6 inches b\c of wires behind it, just look behind and make sure everythings in tact.

My 99 Accord has this problem.. it works sometimes, doesn't work others. Lately, hasn't worked at all. I was told it was the actuator, but to me it doesn't make sense that it would work some, not work some if the actuator was bad. All you can do is have it checked. If, like me, the only problem with the car (in 89.5k miles) is the door lock, it is pretty minor.

cool - i really appreciate the help guys

obviously it's not a huge problem for me, since i'm on the other side of the car, but i'm thinking about selling soon - and I'd want to get all the little little things taken care of and working/looking like new

when i get a free day here, i'll probably try to get the door panel off and take a look back there

again, thanks a million guys

Check the fuse panel. Also there should be a little black contact plug at the bottom corner of the door where it opens. It this unit is worn-out then the door lock will often not work.
