also look close on top of the shifter you can still see the acura A on top. I bought the wood shifter from the dealer back in dec 01 after I got the car so it fadded so I ended up painting it to.

what paint are you guys using? i've used those spray cans, and it just ends up fading. You can actually rub the paint off. so i'm left with a crappy half painted plate. so this is why i'm in the market for a new plate (looking for the chrome '99). but if painting really works - i'll try it again.

tell me some steps please..!

Well you could build it up with a filler of some sort then paint the whole thing or get a new one

that's what i did, i sanded it down, whte primer, then a chrome/gray auto spray paint, clear coat... still fades... plus, at first it was still soft, i can leave an impression of my finger print, ijust assumed i didn't wati long enough, so iwaited 48 hrs. and it stll can be pressed in andleave a mark..

You're putting it on too thick.

I used like 40 cans of Duplicolor on my friend's car (flat black stealth... I've got some stories to tell about this one ) and it was a decent brand. Good spray nozzle, didn't clog up or drip.

Basically any type of automotive spray paint at your local auto parts store will do.

I think you are mistaken my friend... It is the driver side ejection button, only works while the moonroof is open; however, the ejection button for the passenger is in front of the other heated seat switch .

Cool lookin/ I'm taking my 99 shift gate off tomorrow and removing the silver paint on it. There is chrome under the paint on the 99 TL's. I've read the instructions here on this site but would still like to know just what is involved in getting it (shift gate) off. I know you have to take the leather shift knob off by twisting it counter clockwise but exactly how did you get the plate off. I don't want to scratch it!!! The previous owner had spilled COKE (the drinking kind) on it and it ate threw the paint and it's the only thing in the car that looks like %$&%. Hope to read something from you soon. Thanks!

I'm with Luke7....just what did you do to get it out? I would have done it a while ago but worried about snapping something that would cost $ and hassle to replace. My rear view mirror had a "meltdown" and permanently stained the pieces.

Please give some guidance for removal -

take the knob off, with your finger lift off the surrond piece and then you can just pull the shift gate up

yes,

its all held down with just notches in the plastic, so they just come off, just gotta lift/pull hard.

Yea = lift hard and carefully on the shift gate. Pry carefully past the keeper plastic pins on the side if you don't want to break em! I put a screwdirver in the slots to help it lift off. Did it slowly and carefully. You could really screw up things if you don't. Well, after removing the paint, I discovered that the previous owners Coke spill had etched into the chrome on the left side, but it still looks awesome and better than the paint, stain and chrome look as before. I'll post some photos on Monday!
