Paint vs. Wrap

Hey all,

So i got my quotes and money and everything all lined up now I need some opinions.

Vinyl Wrappers want 1100 to wrap entire car (sans roof) in a grayish green wrap that should last 5-6 years with full warranty (no bleeds, no tears, no bubbles)

Painters was 1800 do the same thing but, as the name implies it'll be painted.

Vinyl wrappers also quoted me 950 if I chose a standard wrap color like pearl white or matte black (the green is a rare-ish vinyl)

What do you think?? I'm leaning towards the vinyl because after all, it isn't permanent and its much cheaper. I garage my car and drive an SUV to work every day (its an X5, I have to maintain a status ) so I'm not to worried about it getting to hot or cold (upstate ny can do that) but there is always the fact that paint is permanent...

While I really want that green, I'm thinking maybe matte black might not be a bad idea...And I really need to paint/wrap the car so that I can finally mount my lip kit.

whaddya think?

How is your original paint job now? If it looks good still then I would go with the Wrap.

haha I thought we've went over the overspray already...I've got new tires now and there isn't any. It was worth my time to NOT cover the tires that were going to be recycled in like 5 days versus spend the extra (to do a good job it takes time to tape up)

as for the status...it isn't for me or anything, but literally in my job to be taken seriously I have to drive a nice car (I lobby for a living) Unless you're 40+ OR you drive a nice car, no politician and their aides take you seriously.

and dark greenish/gray vinyl is not nearly produced as much as whites and blacks and RGB colors. If I wanted any "true" color (pure green, pure red etc.) it'd be much cheaper than a mixed color.

no need to hate bud, we're all friends here :-)

Paint is not bad, It is 10 years old and has scratches and fades here and there.

I'm leaning more towards the wrap purely because its cheaper and will last me plenty long enough. by the time the wrap is shot, i'll have enough money to easily paint the car and not worry about it.

^I want to man but it's almost 50% cheaper to wrap it...

the wrappers do an excellent job, I've seen their work... It really is a tough decision

well the way i see it is this:

choice 1;

now:
vinyl wrap = 1100

5-6 years later:
paint = 1800 (must be getting a great deal cus a good paint job is more like 2500+)

total = 2900

choice 2;

now:
detail and paint correction = 250? (just estimating)
or do nothing = 0

down the road:
new paint = 1800

total = 1800 or 2050

so in the long run its $2900 vs $2050. do whatever floats your boat but i thought i should point this out

you're 100% right.

If i only do the correcting, then I don't have to spend much money, but i really do want a new color...

and yeah the paint shop that is doing the painting is owned by one of my buddies' dad. he cut me a break

true true. go for the wrap then if its what you want. its definitely different. i dont anyone has fully wrapped a 2G yet.

although if it were me i would go for a blue carbon fiber weave that i saw on a TSX that was posted somewhere on this site. it looked amazing. but that was like a $2000 wrap job.

I actually might go gray. It's a 300 cheaper than a gray with green tint and it'll still look very nice.

I'm going to get it test wrapped (just a hood, or trunk lid for sampling) and see what fits the best

I guess Matte Black might not look good, but then again it might look good. It all depends...

Why waste $1100 if you're just going to get the car painted later on down the road? I would suggest resisting the urge to wrap the car and just have it detailed/corrected professionally. It will look like new again and you'll have saved a bunch of money.

^I'm going to have to ask about the paint correction cost.

it's making more and more sense...
