Post paint touch up kit

I have a small scratch on my new car. My first scratch!! I know that the touchup kit can be purchased at the dealers. Has anyone had any experience with using it. The scratch is very small. I was grocery shopping and the buggy scratch the bumper.
My car is White Diamond Pearl.

thanks for any info,
Melissa

Melissa,

I recently used the Acura touch up paint on my firepepper red TL and the paint came out darker in the scratches than the remaining part of the car. My recommendation would be to look for another alternative.

well.....

the thing is touch up paint doesn't match the original paint 100%..

That's something that out of our hand..

I had a small ding on the inside lip of the l/r door, which was noticeable with the door closed. My dealer gave me a bottle of touch up paint (I have the White) and it took care of it and matched perfectly!

If the touch up paint came out darker, you might not have the right color - touch up paints should match exactly when they dry. Check and double check the color code from the door and pay close attention to make sure you metallic paint - if your car has that. I've had great success with touch paint from the dealer and the special applicators Girot's Garage sells.

Opps, I spelled it wrong, its:
www.griotsgarage.com, they sell some ridiculously high end stuff, but I've never been disappointed with their products.

I have WDP and the Acura touchup paint is pretty lame. Yes, it is the correct color code but it still sucks. Maybe I got a bad bottle, but it is very runny and also nearly clear. It reminds me of sparkly transparent nail polish.

I will not be using it on my car, thank you.

For small chips/nicks, here is an old bodyman's tip.

Take a paper match, trim the end to a 'V", and use that - it gives very precise application of the T/U paint.

Another tip - use a small amount and fill the nick slowly, allowing 5 mins. of dry time between aplications until you build up to just above the surface, then use light cutting abrasive cleaner (Meguiar's #9) to smooth it out.

I usually wet sand, but that is not for the meek.

Yup thats what I used to do on my old car, although I would use a toothpick instead. never use the brush thats comes with those touch up paints, they are too big.

I also just found out about 2 sites on H-A.net that put your paint in a spray can if you give them your color code. Here are their links. I havent used them yet, But if need be I probably would try them out.

There is a comma in the link to griotsgarage that you have to remove in Xorgs post. http://www.griotsgarage.com/index.jsp
