p1739...oh joy

Its a 1999 TL. I bought it in late July/Early August of 08. Had a bit over 100k on it. The only check engine light ive ever seen is the p0420 for the cat. Whenever that would come up I would run some seafoam and it would go away for awhile. Car now has a little over 123k miles

A couple of days ago I was cruising on the highway at around 65mph. Saw a cop on the shoulder, so i downshifted into third with the sportshift to slow a bit, then went right back into D4. Noticed the CE light came on after a couple more minutes of driving. Figured it was the 420.

Brought it to Autozone to get it scanned...it was the 420, AND the p1739

Ive searched around, and couldnt really get a straight answer. Is this the beginning of the demise of the trans? I was hoping having the 4 speed I would be able to avoid all this. Of course the dealer just wants me to come down and diagnose it, which im sure they will turn around and say I need a trans and slap me with a 200 dollar bill to diagnose.

Of course this has to happen after I get laid off...cancels out me trading it in

Any help would be great

to be honest if your going to trade do it asap because you might be able to clear the light. sometimes when the CEL comes on it starts out as an intermittent failure. try clearing it and seeing how long you can go before it comes back on. if it comes on immediately your beat but if it takes a couple of days your good so when you trade it in just clear the light again. salesman are retarded believe me i worked for honda and people did that alot. hope this helps.... good luck..

I cleared it, i have to drive around 100 miles tomorrow...im gonna see what happens. Thanks for the response...and any other input is appreciated

i wouldnt suggest running seafoam to get rid of the cat code, all the crap the seafoam cleaned out gets clogged in the cat and on the 02 sensor making the problem worse. Good luck, I hope your trans isnt on the way out.

I'd use the brakes to slow down, not a big dollar transmission like ours....

Yea..it was definitely a dummy move on my part...I just kinda went into panic mode when i saw the cop. Ill probably just end up driving it til it blows...just have to really keep my foot out of it and baby the trans. Hopefully i dont have to sell my minitruck to finance a transmission

A p1739 is a third pressure switch on the transmission. Just replace that pressure switch.
