I thought the 02-03 cup holders are a tad bit better than the 99-01

Is there a reason for your ranting, or do you just feel the need to say they suck.

the 02-02 insert is really good. Modify yours to the CL-S manual one and it is awesome.

Most of the drive-thrus and coffee places seem to have their staff trained to fill everything to the very top, as if some customer is going to complain that they got cheated out of 1/4 oz of soda. So if you have to drive anywhere with a beverage or make any turns (90-degree cloverleaf on-ramps), you get to spill that 1/4 oz all over the hard-to-reach nooks and crannies around the cupholder and armrest.

I used to tell the staff at some places "leave an inch off the top" but I don't think they spoke English well enough to know what that meant (or maybe their native country was in centimeters). Then I tried telling them to put a medium portion into a large cup.

But after one messy spill, I decided no more. You'd be amazed how far 3 oz of coffee can go around the seat, armrest, console, etc. It was cheaper to buy a 6-pack of sodas and keep instant coffee at work. (Of course, the taste isn't as good, but I'm saving some bucks, and mainly the aggravation of dealing with a future spill!)

Haha, I don't mind them except when I get a large drink from a fast food joint.
Taco Bell and McDonalds large size cups (that come w/ nearly every meal) are too big for the smaller holder. However, the lids hang over the arm rest when they are in the larger holder. So you have to tilt the cup to open the armrest.

I think I spilled a wee bit of beverage some time ago on the door hinge or something. I've cleaned it all numerous times, but that little bit of stickiness grabs everytime. It's so annoying. Haha, oh well.

The 1999-2000 cupholders suck. Upgrade to the 2001-2003 cupholder. When I had my 2000 TL, it was one of my first, cheapest, and best mods!

Ive never had problems with the cup holders themselves, but the doors gave me a nice little projest. I had to retrieve one of the little plastic gears that went under the shifter..... yeah I bet you didn't know there was a "under the shifter" but there is, and I've been there.

Plus I think the reason I never have problems with the cup holders is cause my wife and I are always in the car together, so ther is always two cups.

There is a little tab on the 01-03 cupholder on the side towards the arm rest (not the side towards the shifter) that you need to file down a bit for it to fit, but other than that it's PNP.

Thanks for the great info!

I'm going to replace the cup holder insert in my 1999 TL.

The insert made a world of difference.
(i still prefer the one from the CL-S6 due to it holding cans and medium drink cups better)

The part im talking about is the entire cupholder from the CL-S6. Its not just a insert like the pic on page 1. Its only from the 03. It will require some modification to the rear vent tubing and to look right you would want to relocate the parking brake.

Wow. I see.

Very cool but I'll go with the 02-03 insert as an easy upgrade.

i think i like the style where it hugs onto the size of the cup. or as in it adjusts to the size of the cup.

Oops, after seeing that pic I realized I was wrong about the location of the tab. The tab is on the side towards the shifter, not on the side towards the arm rest. Nonetheless you'll see what I mean if you simply try to drop the new one in place of the old one. It won't be able to sit down because of the tab. Just file it down a bit until you can push it down flush. I'd recommend not filing it down all the way so that the tab can put some pressure between it and its housing, making a more secure fit.

you honestly think the 02-03 are bad look at the pic and look at what holds the cups with the holder on the left (99-00) and look at the one on the right (01-03)

You dont need it. You should already have it.

They dont have that as an option on the TL. (ever one of those ive ever used are crap anyways) Do you have the one on the right in the pic above?

No. there are NO tabs on the one on the Left. The one on the left is from the 99-00 (which doesnt hold crap) The one on the right already has the tabs removed so you cant see them

aww man, now I really think I'm missing that shiet. I couldn't let myself think that acura would make this piece of crap cup holder. The way it is right now, it doesn't hold a cup. The cup doesn't sit into anything. So when I drive, it can slide all the way back, or all the way forward.
