I think it's personal taste. I really like them... Although, I'm also curious to see the amber 99-01 taillights on an 02-03. I like amber.

I will say, the 99-01 fronts do look more outdated and bland compared to the 02-03 -- even modded.

It's not pretty obvious the car is out dated - the design is alright... so really what's so out dated?

Because it doesn't have a blue tooth option or dual climate control? Everything else about the car is on par or better than many of the newer cars out there. It's even better on gas.

So really, all you folks are going on about is the design. The car still burns gas, still has air bags, abs, cruise, Nav option, HID, climate control, heated seats, traction control and power everything. There is not radical technology or safety improvement that makes this car out of date.

What is however, is an old design.

If you asked me what car was out of date, I'd look back to vehicles pre-ABS, pre-nav, pre-side impact beams and so forth.

Until there is a serious advancement in equipment, motor technology or safety features ALL we're talking about is the skin of the car.

It's funny that you say that the 2G looks like a boring Accord. My coworker just told me yesterday that the 3G looks just like any other Honda. She thought the 2G looked more "original". She knows nothing about cars, so this is a completely unbiased comment. I've always thought that the tail of the 3G looks just like one of the older Accord models (not sure of the exact year though).

I get this a lot. Most people who aren't crazy about cars, think my car is no more then a few years old. When I tell them it's coming up on 9 they always think I'm putting them on.

I really enjoyed the motor, but it's now a completely different car. The 3.2TL and the TL stress different experiences.

But they're all different cars guys... the TSX is not aimed at the same target market as a TL owner, just in the same way the TL is not aimed at the RL market. Or more dramatically, the MDX is not aimed at the TL market. They all are built with different end users in mind.

Look at the features they offer, motor and price points. Shouldn't the TL have always had drop down rear seats? No because the buyer of a TL uses the car differently then a TSX owner. Who is really buying an upscale accord - family, utility and mpg in a base luxury package. It's for the same reason the TSX doesn't have a v6 in it... then it would just be a smaller TL.

I went back in my Honda civic, and my 2G TL was way high tech!

looks

I love the way my TL looks.....its big "eyes" and the way all the lines of the car flow in one symmetrical motion, I like the tail-lights because they remind me of the older JDM sedans, its not an over complicated design of the whole car, OH and the interior is like a COUCH......just big, roomy and comfortable. Of course, my old car was an STi with the hardest track suspension you can probably buy, pretty much anything would be more comfortable, OH and another thing is its a Honda, and you will be hard-pressed to find a car that will eventually have 300k on it and still look like it is new......

Personally i still love the 2Gs. The interior is bigger and more comfy than most of my buddys newer cars and like said above a 2G lowered looks freakin sexy and mean.

I do agree with the 99-01 amber tail lights being a bit dated. The dash and center stack are a bit dated on the TL (99-03). But the overall shape ... looks great. Lowered, OEM body kit (there are others from Japan that also look fantastic), Mugen spoiler, dark tint, 18-19" rims ... the TL is still a head-turner.

I still see my TL-S from time to time ... car looks great. I wish I didn't have to part with my TL-S or else it would be my winter beater.

I love it when people ask me, "what year is that?" I reply with a smirk on my face, "oh its just a 2000" hehe. I have had people assume its almost brand new. I just cant help but smile when i hear that. also, It never ceases to turn heads on the huge lifted trucks for some reason... The only thing i feel like is outdated, is the steering wheel. The airbag/center part is HUGE. newer cars are slim/sleek. oh well, nobody sees inside anyway.

I love my 2G as far as looks but I wish I had the 3G Type S- 4G Type S engine under the hood. I want more speed without a ton of aftermarket stuff.

Guys, before I bought my TL a few months ago, I thought that the 2G was still being made, I had no idea they had stopped making them 4 years ago (I thought the 3G was a different model because it didn't have the 3.2 in its name like the 2G). And I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about cars (though I had only owned domestics before).

The 2G is definitely not outdated, either in terms of looks, or features, or power/performance. Maybe it is compared to the 3G, or the 4G (yuck!), but not compared to other manufacturers' cars, both domestic and imports.

One thing that is concerning though is why are the 2G's depreciating so fast? I have seen them for as low as $5000, which does not compare favorably with most other Japanese cars, for example you cannot find a Lexus IS300 for under 10k, at least not here in Ontario.

I just love the body shape....If i really had an option to get another car it would either be a Benz-CL 2door coupe, a LEXUS Ls thats basically it. Slammed and i forgot my NSX!!!!

I still like the 2G alot as most people here. Having a paid-off car is also real nice. My only reservation about keeping it is the tranny issue once the car is out of that extended warranty.
Otherwise, still looks pretty good, very roomy inside, huge trunk (I easily stuff 2 hockey bags in there, by buddy can barely get 1 into his new G35 sedan), decently nice interior, etc...

The only Acura's that I feel look outdated today are the
-86-93 Integra
-86-91 Legend
-92-95 Vigor

The 3rd gen TL was an improvement, but the exterior design, and the way it drives just wasnt for me. The gadgets inside are nice, but a Double Din Navi deck fixes that for us second gens. I'm not a fan of DBW either.
Couldn't agree with you more about the double din navi. God i love my pioneer double din.

I've never noticed or cared about Onstar on cars until I started pressing the buttons when I got my TL (During this time it was already obsolete of course) Kinda bugs me it's there and totally useless now though.

Yeah I'm feeling the paid off bit as well. When I was searching for a cheap car, I had in mind I could only afford to find a mid 90's Honda Accord or Camry.

The only thing I feel thats outdated is the interior. The passenger side airbag cover is old, and the A/C vents. The way you tilt them, newer cars have the little slidy things that change. The vents themself don't move. My favorite part in the interior is the Type-S seats. They are sexy and comfortable.

On the outside, nothing is really old. Maybe the way the car comes to a point? But that adds to the aggressive look. My favorite part on the outside is the back.
