Are our 2G TLs Outdated?

I still think our 2G TLs look pretty good, especially the tail. I didn't like the 3G TL as much because the tail looked like an older Accord and the front was too wedgie for me. The 3G has grown on me, though. I'm not too sure about the looks of the 4G. The lines look nice but that grille is a bit much.

What do you think? Does the 2G TL look outdated? Does the 3G or 4G TL look better to you?

It is a matter of personal taste, so opinions should vary.

I for one detest the new design themes of bulging curves and angry bug eyes which seem to be in vogue these days, not to mention the big silver V at the front with which Acura seems to have fallen in love.

But you ought to get just as many, if not more, people who like the newer designs.

Ugly or beautiful, at least the new design has succeeded in provoking discussions and leaving a lasting impression.

Personallyi love the 2G. the 3Gs are very nice also IMO but i prefer the 2G over it. I think if the 2G would have come with a 6Spd option it would be alot better but i still think it is an awesome car and is aging very well

I still love my 2g hands down from the newer generations. recently after getting my car serviced at acura went for a rip on an 08 clearance demo model sure its faster handles better but honestly I'm still attached to mine and looking forward to having it for another couple of years

Not at all, Acura/Honda does a very good job with the design of their cars (well except the 09 lineup...lol) The only part of the 2nd gen TL that looks outdated is the 99-01 amber tails. Other than that I think it's a sharp car that is just as good looking, if not better than most cars.

The only Acura's that I feel look outdated today are the
-86-93 Integra
-86-91 Legend
-92-95 Vigor

The 3rd gen TL was an improvement, but the exterior design, and the way it drives just wasnt for me. The gadgets inside are nice, but a Double Din Navi deck fixes that for us second gens. I'm not a fan of DBW either.

i had the choice really between an 03tl-s or tsx or 04 tl and i picked the 03 just because i love the interior and exterior of it. i am not a huge fan of the whole new style where they just look really tall. pretty much the 03 tl and 03 5 series are the only ones who fit the bill past 02 so 2nd gen tl it is. and have you seen the interior? its beautiful. i dont like symmetrical dashes because the dash should be aimed towards the driver. plus i love the somewhat smaller navi screen. the new ones are too big when just feet away.

sorry if any of my post didn't make sense. i've been smoking.

the main reason i love my 2g is because i love longer body sedans, and the TL was in the perfect budget range for me!! i actually had a choice between my a-spec and a 05 TL with navi..

I love the 2g shape, always have always will. I wouldnt mind getting a 3gen one, but seems so cramped inside.

So I have decided to keep my 2gen, until it dies! and whether it looks outdated. I don't think it does one bit. I was at my friends garage getting the oil changed, and there was another customer there with a Mazda 3. She was like hey that's a really beautiful car, what year is it? When I told her it was a 99, she didn't believe. She the design looked alot newer then a 99.

If kept up right our cars look a lot better than even many new models; however, if there was one thing I felt to be somewhat outdated on our cars would be the design of the dash. I still had quite a few people think my car was new.

2G is not outdated IMO. I think it still looks better than most cars on the road.

Definitely agree with most of the posts on here. The 2G is not outdated as far as looks. The 3G is nice IMO and I wouldn't mind having one either but my car is paid for, runs good, and still looks great. I still compliments on it and a lot of the time they are surprised when I tell them it's an 02. As for the 4G TL, I spent about 2 hours looking through one and test driving it. It's not a bad car, although I don't really care for the exterior design. The interior features are sweet, especially the weather/radar map, but it's not worth 40K IMO. I also found it odd why the rear wheel wells have an almost felt material in them. Doesn't seem like it would be easy to keep clean. It's similar to the material that is used in the trunk.
I still love my 2G and although I wouldn't mind having some of the cooler gadgets on the interior, I can't justify another car payment for that, especially when there is nothing wrong with my car.

I just traded my '02 TL-S for a '08 TL-S. I really enjoyed my 2G for almost 6 years and thought it was a great looking car. I guess what really pushed me into getting the 3G is that my wife said my 2G looked like a grandpa car. I am now enjoying the 3G, but it was nice not have a car payment.

Thats what I love about acura/honda...their vehicles seem to have timeless looks. When the 2nd Gen came out in 99 (9 years ago) wow, they were smart in the design and only having navi as the only option. Now, our cars are highly desired in the used market for that reason..fully loaded cars at good prices and no 100 different option packages people have to worry about. Now, the newer 3rd and 4th Gens are nice, but I do like the look of our 2nd Gen more, especially with the body kit and a lowered stance like mine and many others have. I think a body kit dramatically makes the 2nd Gen look better IMHO. I like mine even more because it is paid for and until I can get a CLS benz or 745 BMW, I'm rollin with my 2nd Gen because I love it.

So, short answer..no, our cars are not dated at all if you ask me...look at the crap other car makers are putting out now...I think people are sleeping on the new Hyundai Genesis..I think it is genius how they put that car out there in a sagging market and I think people are looking for luxury at cheaper prices...I would even consider one of those

They might be "dated" but you can actually see out of them and don't need a backup camera to park your car

2G is perfect! 3G is great too. 4G is bLEAAUgCHH. Overall, the 2G Legend is still the king of timeless cars. Somethin' about 2Gs haha

almost every day when I go to and from work, within every 10-15 ft theres always another person with a 2g and Its awesome how I'm not the only one with the 2g and I rarely see the 3g's just tsx's. of course the 3g has 8 speakers, bluetooth, and that backup camera (useless to me), mine still has all the goodies I need for daily use. 2gs ftw

grandpa car? I beg to differ. a grandpa car IMO would be a toyota camry. 2g's look mean and stealthy and I'm thankful to have one in black . Just going to and from work everyday, within every 20 feet, I always see a 2g and it feels good that others like that car also. I rarely see 3g's just mostly tsx's nowadays. sure the 3g has alot more goodies such as bluetooth, 8 speaker sound system, and the navi w/backup camera (the camera is useless to me), I still feel mine has enough to keep me satisfied. 2g ftw

I think the 2g interior is outdated for acura. i love the front end of the 2g if you look at it from the side. i wish it had bigger wheel wells though :/

i only like the a-spec and type-s for the 3g, and 4g... they f-ed up... they better give the '11 a huge face lift and butt tuck.

Yeah, I'm with tequila on the front end's sharp looks from the side. I love how pointy the nose is. Whenever I park my car to take the bus to university I love coming back to see how nicely my car stands out among the masses of other lame looking cars.

I think they have a very classic look not to rounded or square, and the front end looks great.

I'm going to add that I think the 2g TL looks better and has more to offer than most of the new cars out there today. Low cost of ownership is key in my book.

As for the 3rd gen, I love the 07-08 Type S. The other models just arent worth it for me.

I'm not buying a new car until 2016. I'll proably keep my TL as a dd

i love my car.. i think the 99-01's look a BIT outdated when i see the amber in the tails. but overall doesn't look like an old car. plus i hate how all the auto-makers are starting to make all the futuristic robot looking vehicles. dont get me wrong, there are still nice looking new cars out there (i.e 3g TL) but i prefer curves over edges on most cars.

i like my 2g. i wish there was just a little more freedom/mods for it to keep it interesting. cause after a while of it being the same you start to look at the grass on the other side

Outdated? A TL honestly I see many of them with mods or not, are still looking sharp. The amber part doesn't even consider it being outdated, when you can always remove it. Yea we have to do certain things to keep up with the new age, however, you cant compare a 99 to a 09 either. Anyone who sees my car mistakes the 99 for a 03.

I Don't think theres much outdated about the 2G's as far as looks are concerned I have to say that personally I think the 2G TL-S in APB is one of the best looking cars Acura has ever designed (as an owner of one you can consider me slightly biased) I was still in high school when they came out and last year, my senior year in college when I ditched the high school ride (a Lifted Wrangler, I didn't really ditch, its just a weekend car now) I was shocked to find out I could afford one. In the last year I've been really impressed how well its performed, and I still love the looks of the car. As for friends and family they think I'm ballin because they think I drive a "New" luxury car. When I tell them it's an 03 now six years old(originally purchased in Aug. 02) they don't believe me.
As far as performance goes the only thing thats really outdated is the fact it's FWD, but it does have a swift 270bhp, and I know you can never have enough horsepower but I wanted an attractive, comfortable, dependable daily driver, not a race car. I do think its awesome that Acura offers an AWD TL now but I wish it wasn't so ugly. Outdated or not I'd take a 2G or 3G any day over an 09'.

outdated everything gets outdated, some things within months of release.

there's no way to keep up with technology.

styling: somewhat

tech package, definitely. recent acura models have way better technology all around.

A lot of the new cars are looking all the same anyway. With gas prices as high as they are the bigger more powerful engines don't benefit the working middle class with bills to pay. I like my low car payment. It will be paid for soon anyway. I also like the fact that I'm not upside down either.

I agree. I've got a 1999, and for a close to 10 year old car, it still looks like a rather fresh design. My neighbor thought it was only a couple of years old.

I would say, 2G tl looks much much better than lot of latest models: toyota camry, corolla, etc. I do not believe it is outdated. Sure it will probably an overkill to put huge spinner wheel but it is still quite going strong eye turn especially the souped up ones.

I pointed out a 3G TL to a coworker today. Her comment was that it looked like any old Honda and she thought the 2G looked better.

On my way home this evening, I saw a 4G TL heading towards me. In person, I thought it was a really hot car! So maybe I'll buy a 4G in a couple of years.

I do not think 02 tl should look like a grandpa. lot of youngsters drive it.
Something like Acura RL as well as Lexus LS460, 600, Cadillac CTS, DTS, might be better fit for grandpas.

I looks better then most of the domestic cars I see on the road.

My car is starting to show signs of age, but it has 124k on it. Does that bother me? Not at all.

What bothers me most about the new TL's is their drop in MPG... has no one in Japan seen the price of gas?

The 2G TL came out in '98 as a '99 model. I think it's pretty obvious that a 10 year old car is outdated. That being said, a modded 2G is still one of the hottest looking cars out there. A 2G in stock form is pretty bland now.

I agree, most of the TLs I see driving around St. Albert are quite boring because they're all stock and driven by middle aged people. I love being one of very few younger guys to own a nice one. And as far as I know I have the only EBP Type-S in St. A...could be wrong though. I'm definitely excited to add a lip kit, drop her and throw on some 18s. Then I'll definitely have the best TL in St. A

I was at the dealer today looking at the 09 TL in the showroom. Looks VERY nice! The grille is still butt ugly and throws off the look, but it also looks like it can easily be swapped out or repainted to body color and it'd be a pretty hot car overall. AWD will make it pretty slick. It looks less sportier than the 3G TL but more luxurious. It's huge...It looks like it could be Acura's flagship car lol. I'd love to roll in one.

As for 2G TL, yeah our cars kinda look outdated.....like cars from the late 90's....but just throw on a lipkit and I doubt you will find many cars on the road that look like it. I still get alot of props from strangers every now and then.

I've said it before, and I've always felt this way... Stock for stock, the 3G wins hands down in the looks department. The 2G just looks like a boring Accord in it's stock form. However, modded, I prefer the low sleek long look of the 2G. Don't get me wrong, the 3G isn't an ugly car at all... it's actually very attractive compared to some of its competition and other sedans out on the road.

As for technology and interior, yes, the 2G is outdated and lacks the modern feel.

If I had the opportunity, I'd take a 3G for it's modern feel, amenities, and power (and the 6spd). I could deal with the looks.

Line up the newer cars by Toyota/Lexus/Nissan etc. and park next to them. The 2G Acura TL has held up very well design wise. Everyone that gets in my car says, "Nice Ride". Even younger teens. OH, I've never figured out what the big deal is about the Rear Amber tailights. Do the Clear ones make the car look much better? Am I going to spend $100's to change em out=NOT~

I still love the looks of mine...and get compliments regularly.
And yes the clear vs amber lights makes you go faster, increases gas mileage and improves handling.

agree. but 3G is twice as expensive as 2G.
