I believe all the Acura's come from overseas except for our TL. I previously owned a 91 Integra back in the day and my Integra was well built. Same can be said for the Legends around that era.

i think our TL was made in japan but the tranny was done here in the US and everything assembled in the ohio plant and/or canada.

i think things have changed since now all trannies are built in japan and the rest here in the US.

older acuras like the legend and RL were underpowered and overwt except for the legend coupe Type II w/ 6spd. of course w/ todays safety standards acuras are better but for over all build quality, the have remained the same but just a steady progression of being better.

[does this makes sense?]

The TL's final assembly point is Marysville, OH. The J32A1/J32A2 both came from the Anna, OH engine plant, I believe (not 100% sure).

However, the transmission is from Japan - Not the US. It says so on the window sticker. Here's what it says:

"Country of Origin:
Engine: U.S.A.
Transmission: Japan"

Oh yeah, definitely a design problem. Honda has a transmission plant both in Ohio and in Alabama, I think. But some come from Japan. Either way, it sucks.

I had 210,000 on my 88 Legend and never had ANYTHING go wrong with it...until my wife started driving it...I saw it recently and although it is all rusted out on the driver qtr panel, now has over 300,000 on it...

Never should have sold it

The following Acuras were/are made in Japan

Legends, RLs, Vigors, 1st gen TLs, Integras, NSX, TSX

Made in the US:

2nd and 3rd gen TL, CL's, MDX (might be built in Canada, not sure)

As for the build quality of the TL generations, feel free to ask. I still own my '97, I had a 2003 and now have a 2005

MDX is produced in Canada.

I'm interested on your take on 2G TL build quality? Despite trying to stay positive, mine is pretty disappointing.

a lot of the honda&acuras made 1996 & after were made in the U.S., check your VIN# if it starts with a J it's made in japan if it starts with a 1 its made in the U.S. they built it to break down so they can fix it and jack us for more money its a known fact, more profit for labor and parts.

Well I had a late 2003 TL, so I'm sure my experience was more positive than the average owner of a 2nd gen. I had no squeeks or rattles and the transmission never caused any problems. I DID have alignment issues, the car seemed really "darty" and subject to crosswinds and thats a problem in Oregon, I wanted stability and a car that could track well. This unfortunately did not show up during the test drive or even the first few months I had the car. I tried alignments and getting new tires but none of it seemed to work.

I was mostly disappointed with the interior, the 3rd gen TL really called to me in that department, I got an excellent deal on my trade-in value and jumped ship to an '05 TL.
