Old People With Tls
I am tired of seeing these old 50 year olds with the tl. Thats all I see now. I past 4 tls today and nothing but old people driving them . I thought all the old people drove buicks and cadillacs.
I even saw an old lady driving a 02 type s. Wut the hell is that lady gonna do with 260 hp go to the hair salon in a hurry .
Sorry but you guys know what Im talking about. If you see a modded tl you get excited and gotta get closer to see what was done to it .
And to all the older tl drivers sorry if this has offended you.

It doesn't make a difference to me... All I know is that there is no other TL in my area that is identical to mine! I'm one of a kind, baby!

Yep, all us old farts gotta have our De Villes and Roadmasters, 'cuz we don't know no better.
Just a few rides of mine and my friends from my younger days: '68 GTO Judge, '69 Buick GS,'70 Chevelle 454 SS, '72 Pantera, '74 Tans Am 455 SD ... I even owned a '72 Jaguar XJ6 for a while (until dealing with Strohmberg carbs and Lucas electronics got to be too much). But heck, that was all probably before you were born.

If it bothers you so much to see "blue hairs" driving the same car as you, go buy one of those Neons in some gawdawful color with the irridescent vinyl badges. Otherwise, try giving some of those old dogs a thumb's up, or better yet (gasp!) even talk to 'em about their cars. You might just learn something. What will you be driving 30 years from now?

Great job 8ball! I am 57-just bought a 2002 Type S with full underbody kit and about all the options they have. Getting wheels next week. Hey I had a 67 GOAT and 69 SS396. We sure had fun back then. These young guys wouldn't even know what to do with 350hp under the hood. (Just kidding guys) Actually it does not make any difference how old you are if you are a car enthusiast. Young and old, we all have a common interest and can learn from each other. I am always picking up tips from my son in-law who also is into cars.
acnup00tl,
Just imagine what those ppl you are talking about think when they see YOU driving a TL that was targeted for them??
The old lady driving the TL-S might be driving her husband's or her son's car..
I let my mom borrow my car this weekend when she went to the store..
Just because you see older ppl driving the TL, doesn't mean that there aren't any young folks. This site is a great example of the range of ages. If you want to meet others in your area, organize a meet.
IF it does really bother you, then mod your TL to really make it different and give it the personality that fits you.
I thought only older ppl drove the TL until I met all these ppl here and also at the meet I went to.
The TL is a pretty good Honduh, its only natural that it appeal to many different ppl.
When I'm 50, for damn sure I'm not driving a Buick(they are POS IMO). But a Cadillac Escalade!!
Just because something looks old on the outside, don't underestimate what's under the hood...

Thanks, Comp-Time. Yep, sure was fun. Still is, too! Better when you could fill up with premium (leaded) and still get enough change back from your $5 to take your date to the movies. But then, I'm perfectly happy with where I'm at now. Or I should say, I'll be happier in a few weeks when I get my new TL-S. In the meantime, I can enjoy riding to the golf course with my buddy in his cherry '63 Impala SS (four on the floor, buckets, no belts) Yeee-Hawww!

Just a poll for you chronologically challenged ones: how many packages of Depends can you fit in the trunk of the TL? I tend to go through those really quickly, so I'd like to buy in bulk if possible.

Just the Judge and the TA. The rest (and more) were my buds'. But I drove 'em all ... a lot.Just a quick story about the SS454. It belonged to my high school buddy down the street. His dad owned a garage, and he spent all his time tweaking that car. It wasn't much to look at (lotsa primer gray from the never-ending bodywork; had to make those street slicks fit) but open the hood and
! Chromed magnificance! Nothing pulling power off it but an alternator (or maybe it was a generator back then). It was geared so low it topped out at 110-115 mph, but WOW did it get there quick.Anyway, here was the standard initiation rite for first time rides in that beast. First, he'd open the headers, just so you would know he was coming. Heh-heh. Second, the passenger bucket would be unbolted from the floor. Get in, he punches it, and when those tires hooked up, you're pinned against the back seat, ass in the air, for the next 8-10 seconds (that's why previously initiated passengers along for a ride with a newbie sat behind the driver's seat). Not much need for amusement park thrill rides with these rides in the neighbohood!

LOL
Yes, why are all these young boys buying MY car? Don't they know that the TL is targeted for "my" age group? In fact, my "younger" cousin laughed and commented that I bought an "older person's" car. Yah, he's married with 4 little kids, so he drives a Toyota Sienna bus.
He stopped laughing when he saw photos of my TL-S! Now he wants one too.

Id rather see older people drving TL's then younger people, cuz i know the older folks deserve it and worked for it. When i see these teenagers driving these rides i know they dont deserve it and they didnt work for it.

Not to totally take Acnup's side but I think he meant older women. I can easily see older men driving a TL, look at Winkly and his son. That's what "men" like to do.
I can say this, I see one partially modded TL to 15 stock middle-aged women TL's around here, so it definitely seems like a "boring" car, like the Camry. It's like "Ooh, another TL, let me go check it out" and it's just an older women who most likely doesn't even use Sport-Shift..ever.
When I found this forum, I was ecstatic cuz I could finally meet "men" who drive TL's and want to talk shop. Who cares how old they are.

I was one of the first to get a TL in Toronto! I was able to get some help from a dealer friend, and jumped the line up. That was Oct 1998. I will be getting an S type. I am 66 years of age and I do not worry about all you young guys getting TL's. I do not dress up cars with bits of plastic and trick wheels, I am having to much fun driving the car. I have seen over 200 kph on speedometer, and yes I was behind the wheel at the time. Not trying to flame anyone, good luck to all of you that mod or dress up your TL's I enjoy reading about it.
Let's just all kiss and make up. It really doesn't matter how old you are, just that you enjoy your car. I don't think he intend to offend anyone, see he even apologized, btw, I'm 21, 22 in 2 1/2 weeks.
I'm actually glad to see that alot of older people drive TLs. What do you think older people think when we the people in our 20's and even some that are in their teens drive the TLs.
They gotta think "damn, he's using his pops TL again", or "that kid works his ass off to make those payments".

I wonder what else you've got in your storehouse of stereotypes? So, acnup00tl, what are you going to be driving when you're an old man of 40? 50? 60? 70? 80? Or are you still so foolish that you don't think you'll ever be that old?
I've got news for you. You will be the same person you are now, no matter how old you manage to get. With any luck, you'll be wiser and more empathetic, too.

if you think about it ... the "older generation" (trying not to offened anyone here) are the indiviudals who have managed money well, supported their families and now have decided to spend a little to enjoy life. i commend that, no one said they had to drive 78 cadillacs anymore =)
While I'm not quite 50 (47 in August), I still feel qualifed to respond in defense of older TL drivers. I leased my TL because it offered me the best of both worlds (sporty but with comfort)in its class. Not only that, but reliability and resale value were also big factors. I don't think age matters when it comes to recognizing quality and value. We may be getting old, but our brains still works in all the right places!
I just feel lucky to be able to afford a car that is marketed toward older (better off with more savings) folks.
But like Shoof said, my car stands out of the rest of the TL's even though there are a hecka many TL's out there. I was getting my tire replaced yesterday (cuz the stock tire ruptured on me) and the car next to mine was a 2000 TL also. I talked to the owner (seemingly in his 50's) about how the TL's are great. I also told him about the TL-S tail light conversion. He said he liked the idea and that he was going to do it! He even mentioned that he is planning on getting a borla exhaust.
My point is it doesn't matter how old you are to appreciate cars. I know for a fact that when I get older, I will still be a car enthusiast. I have always been. And I will not exclude my car choices just because some of the younger generations drive them. BTW, I'm 27.

All you drug dealers will get busted eventually, so enjoy your rides while you can. Us old farts (46) have worked hard and can enjoy our TLs.
Now having said that, I don't assume that every young person driving a modded nice car is a drug dealer. BUT, many people do. So think about THAT when you're driving around. What stereotype message are you sending?
BTW, I think almost all of us decided that the TL was the best car for the money. So I would say that shows some intelligent money management. As someone else posted earlier, the mods you guys do is just your youthful expression. We all have choices, choose wisely.

I hope the following quotation is as true for the car as it is for the driver:
To me, fair friend, you never can be old
For as you were when first your eye I eyed,
Such seems your beauty still.
William Shakespeare

Being 50 myself, I agree with 8ball, but also respecttall the younger drivers out there. As all of you know, I do all I can to further the enjoyment of our fine ride no matter what the age of the driver. I do enjoy blowing off all the young rice boys in their Tegs and Civics though. As for older women- those of you who met my wife at the Nj meet can attest that women can be "car guys" too. Not that I would consider my wife "old" (disclaimer to save my ass)- she has a 2000 TL Navi with body kit, spoiler and wood kit. She is always after me to give her car more power- she wants my 02 TL-S!
It should'nt matter the age or the sex- if you are smart enough to buy one of our cars- you should enjoy it in any way you want!
