Okay It"s Official!!!

I will be getting a 3rd transmission. Now what to do? I think I will be seeing about getting them to buy it back. With 33k on the odometer it's safe to say that they will be able to sell it at profit. Or just hang in there and try to keep a smile on my face. Hmmm? Suggestions? ACURA SUCKS!!! I AM GOING BACK TO NISSAN< BACK HOME> Sorry guys... But @ 5 grand a pop. Someone else is losing money besides me. That kind of puts a smile on my face...

Screw that! The repeated tranny problems that you are having is just plain silly. Better luck with your next car.

Nate,

You obviously drive your car too hard,
use SS too much,
do lots of burn outs,
abuse your car completely,
and are making too big a deal of this.

So, 3 trannys? Hey, it's under warranty, so what do you care? Only a small percentage of TL-S's have tranny failures! Don't get worked up about it!

OK ---------- Only kidding here, but some people here feel just like that!

Anyway, this will be your last tranny, one way or another. The last two times yours was replaced, they did not know the cause. They do now.

Hang in there...

Wait a minute... Has it been replaced twice already and you're now going on your 4th tranny counting the one you started with?

Sorry Redlined....

This will be my 2nd replaced transmission, I was mistakenly counting the original. But and If I read the other post correctly, they will be remanufactured...***OH HELL NO***, Only bad thing is I have to wait to February until the 6 speed G comes out. Man I loved that car too.
1 original 1 replacement transmisson and 1 replace the replacement.

I agree with copland007. A co-worker of mine had a Mustang Cobra that had a minor squeaking issue. They tried three times to fix the same issue, and it never was resolved. He started the paperwork for the lemon law - and made sure Ford knew it.

They came to him with a buyback offer to persuade him not to go through filing it under the lemon law. It makes sense - if the car were tagged a lemon, they'd have to buy it back but would have a hard time selling it again.

This way - they buy it back and it's not tagged as a lemon.

If you go the lemon law route, make SURE that acura knows what you're doing so that they have the opportunity of buying it back. They will most likely give you an excellent price to avoid hanging a lemon tag on one of their cars. (Ford definitely gave my coworker a good price for his Cobra!)

Go away will you! I had a '98 Pathfinder LE that had the front struts go bad ($900) at 38K miles and a front hub baffle go bad at the same mileage ($250). I was told that these were common to the Pathfinder. Since the Nissan bumper-to-bumper warranty is only up to 36K miles, I was on the hook for the repairs.

This was on a truck that was absolutely babied and was never off road. I complained to Nissan, and they called the dealer to verify the repairs. The dealer went to bat for me and admitted that these repairs were premature based on the condition of the vehicle.

Nissan offered to pay for the parts, but I was still on the hook for labor, which was still about $600!

I traded it in and bought a used Land Cruiser.

Get outta here, I am sick of your stupid posts. All of your posts are negative and do not add to this community, so take your nissan loving ass to their forums and leave us be.

Even though I'm not big on conspiracy theories, I wonder if some Acura dealers are trying to swindle Acura by not performing installs, adjustments, or PCM calibrations (if that's required as part of the trans redo) "by-the-book."

My overwhelming experience with new car dealer service centers is one of really high price, many unnecessary add-on services, shoddy quality of service (due to time-pay constraints), and sometime dishonest fast-talk. An ex-dealer service tech told me the new car dealer service centers are swarming with rape-artists. In the case of warranty work, it might be the manufacturer themselves who are victims, even with occasional audits.

I'm sure this happens to a degree...but the service bulletin was established to layout a procedure specific to tranny replacements. The failure rates obviously were high enough to establish some type of process for efficiency of replacement. The fact that Acura wanted them sent back in-tact makes me suspect they wanted to be able to figure out what was wrong...otherwise there was a $1k penalty to the dealer. THis would keep them from doing frivilous switchouts.

Are you joking??? Every car out there has TSB's for tons of different things, even the mighty G35 by now has generated several. If a car were to spend time in the shop for every single TSB generated for it it would be in the shop every single week.
That TSB you posted iis not a new one from 2001 trying to cover up something. They updated their already existing policies from 1998 which is stated on the top. By the same logic just because the TSB existed then means that before 1998 there was a high tranny failure rate. Dont know about you, but I havent seen or heard that.

The trannies are wanted intact as they may also be tested. Hard to do that if its in pieces isnt it? Also all those pieces dont make a great core.

Hey Hiedie,

Did you get you check from acura this month yet.

It seems like you defend anything that is acura, do you work for them.

It is absurd that you say a refurbished transmission is better than a NEW transmittion after you found out acura was putting them on the tls.

you are a funny guy.

then truthofbullcrap, have you received some fat check from Nissan yet? service bulletins are always there, no cars are perfect, no car companies would recall that often because truth is, unless more than 50% cars may be affected, there's no point, when you have problems, you refer to service bulletins, when you don't have problems, screw it, go out and have fun with the car, in your case, a rusty Giant, but whatever, good for you, you probably have no service bulletin for that

and you ARE a funny kid, a very god damn funny kid

hey guys i dunno if u heard this news already but i just heard about it ...

ok so my co-worker was telling me he went to put his car (2001 civic) in reverse and heard a loud BOOM! car wont move. this happens 2 more times. 3rd time BOOM again but not so loud and car finally moves. calls honda and tow truck. honda checks it out and says they cannot find any problem with it. co-worker is out $130 cuz honda wont pay for tow charge.

on certain days going to work he carpools with this old lady. old lady has a son who works at a honda dealer in cleveland, ohio. co-worker calls old lady's son up and asks about transmission problem. old ladies son tells him that at Honda's Ohio plant there was a little period of time where the transmission manufacturing line was not up to standard. (meaning the employees were probably messing around and not paying full attention to detail). old ladies son goes on to say that Honda is well aware of, but staying hush, transmission failures in Accords, Oddessys, and TL/CL's but not in Civics. needless to say, all these transmission failures are probably from the Ohio plant. i dont know if they make transmissions in the other plants.

Now did you mean Truthoffacts was funny peculiar but not "FUNNY HAHA??!" : )

Truthoflack:
It is a pity that there are too many people out there who will go out of their way to post negative comments on other folks rides to make themselves feel better about themselves. A more constructive approach is to go to the Yellow Pages under psychiatrist, get help and see why you must put others down because your "ride" is SO MUCH BETTER than ours. Get a life.

Honda V- trannies are made in Japan. Check your sticker if you still have it.

TruhtofFacts you are an idiot, and an imbecile. Where did I say that remanufactured trannies are better than originals??? Can you read at all or have they not hit that yet in kindergarden??
All I did was point out mistakes that implied Acura issued a secret policy in 2001 to swap out trannies. That was wrong. The 2001 TSB was just an update to an old 1998 policy, and its obvious that most here especially you yourself dont know what the hell a TSB is.

You have no facts despite your screenname, the only thing you post here is your childsih opinions. I'd ask where your paycheck from Nissan is, but I dont need to. Children aren't allowed to work; I know that already.

Im calling you out factless. I live in NY also. In the NYC/Long Island area. Where are you? Lets see what brand tricycle he really has

Calm Down...

Didn't mean for my post to start a war. No need for violence, unless it's directed towards Acura. I decided to hang in there on TL-S until something comes along. There aren't too many sedans out there I like. You must understand that, coming from on car company (Nissan) having purchased at least 5 different products from them over the years, each driving to well over 100k with no quality issues. I come to Acura where I hear they can and do make great cars with exemplary quality build. And the have my 2nd transmission go out on me and a number of problems I listed on my first post. I will give them one more chance, but I will not be driving the car as much. Acura needs to take care of this issue or I feel anumber of you will be jumping ship to head to other makers...ie, Nissan, BMW, M-B to name a few.

My invoice for the first transmission replacement was over $5k and I am sure this one will be the same. My question to you is who lost the profit on the vehicle. Becasue it's costing the dealer or acura serious money to replace these transmissions and I wonder if they have a clue.

As the founding member of the Replaced Replacement Tranny Club, I welcome you. I too am on my 3rd. The reason I asked is that something someone else said indicated this would have been your 4th. Either way you slice it, that sucks.
