Cool OK what is the Real Deal on the Transmission recall there are 2 different issues?

I am beyond confused here and need some pro's to clarify the Transmisison Recall Issue!!!

PROBLEM 1 - Extended Warranty (Not the Recall Issue):

Extended warranty was not a recall - Fell under class action lawsuit which some Vin's did not
(Some vehicles had extended warranty because of the faulty and poorly made transmissions - specifically the Gen 1 Cars)

Extended warranty facts cover:

IN Specific first 556 Vehicles 19UUA5-3A000001 19UUA5-3A019556 (my car does not fall under this so my car is not the same gen as these gen1 cars)

1999–02 3.2TL - All
2003 3.2TL (except Type S):
From VIN 19UUA5...3A000001 thru
19UUA5...3A019556
2003 3.2TL Type S:
From VIN 19UUA5...3A000001 thru
19UUA5...3A019061
2001–02 3.2CL - All
2003 3.2CL (all models):
From VIN 19UYA42..3A000001 thru

Service Bulletin number is SB 02-027

• Quick downshifts.
The grade logic system
compares memorized driving conditions with
current conditions and shifts the A/T accordingly.
When going down a hill, even a light touch of the
brake pedal can cause the A/T to downshift to the
next lower gear. Downshifting helps to slow the
vehicle through engine braking.

• Does not always shift through the full range
of gears.
This can also be caused by the grade
logic system keeping the A/T in its optimum gear

• Mechanical noise when selecting a forward or
reverse gear.
It is normal to hear a slight
mechanical noise when moving the shift lever
from one gear to another. This noise can sound
abnormally loud if any of the windows are
lowered and you are parked next to a wall or
another vehicle.

• Vehicle may not hold its position when
stopped on an incline in gear (may roll
backward when the brake pedal is released).

This can occur on most Acura-made vehicles.
It is a result of the measures taken to improve
fuel economy.

• Late, hard shifts before the engine warms up.
By design, the A/T shifts later and a little harder
when the engine is cold. It returns to smoother
shifting when the engine warms up.

2. People had more than 1 replacements. Not one problem in particular there could be many different problems as you see from above - was just a facking shatty transmission.

3. Oil-Jet not applied to this of these vehicles for the non recall Service bulletin
- supposedly this is completely different issue

Problem 2 Safety Recall: CL and TL Automatic Transmission 2nd Gear Inspection
(Supersedes 04-020, Safety Recall: CL and TL Automatic Transmission Second Gear Inspection, dated

November 10, 2004)
BACKGROUND
Certain operating conditions can result in heat buildup
between the countershaft and secondary shaft 2nd
gears in the A/T. Without enough oil flow to dissipate
heat, prolonged operation under these conditions can
eventually result in decreased material strength. In
higher mileage vehicles, this can result in gear tooth
chipping or, in very rare cases, gear breakage.
In most cases, A/T noise will indicate a problem,
however it is possible for the A/T to become locked
without warning. A locked A/T could result in a crash

1. 2nd and 3rd possible gear lock up. (Different issue than the Warranty extension issue?))

3. Oil-Jet Kit required if disconsolation not discovered
A/T Oil Jet Kit (3.2CL and 3.2TL):
P/N 06250-P7W-305
(Includes an oil jet, oil jet line with bracket, oil jet
hose, ATF filler plug adapter and sealing washer,
two O-rings, and three hose clamps)

4. If discoloration was found transmission is replaced

5. Is this a completely different new Redesigned transmission from the first transmission described in the warranty extension issue?

I am sorry if this has been asked but no one ever clarified the 2 seperate issues and why.

I have the safety recall not the warranty extension recall. Should I be concerned I bought my car after it had the oil-jet installation. They saw that no discoleration and no gear damage so the transmission did not need to be replaced. Am i totally ommitted from the possibility of the issue where transmissions were just crap. Am I ok and should I be concerned since I had the oil-jet kit? Please someone that can depict from my posting help...

What this guy describes is exactly what is happening:
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/throttle-lag-691048/

It takes a split second sometimes from neutral to 1st gear then it will pop in gear and all runs perfect after about 10 min's of driving I can put it in park then drive and it will go into first right away with out the split second lag.

Yes there are 2 Issues.

1. Is the 2nd gear shaft. Thats what the recall was for. It is to install a oiljet. It add lubrication to cool it. It is a VERY VERY rare problem and i still havent seen any one on this forum have that failure.

problem 2 is the 3rd gear clutch packs. THAT is what the warranty extension is designed to cover.

the 2nd lock up is when the (recall) part fails and the shaft breaks or seizes. Wheels lock up you loose control of car.

in feb of 05 they changed steels and plates, and added more coolant passage inside the trans. The oil jet is built in.

Even if you have the recall (oiljet) installed your trans can fail from #2 (the clutchpack issue) They are 2 separate trans issues and the oil jet does nothing for the clutchpacks. Should you be concerned since the oiljet? about what? It doesnt cause your trans to fail, it keeps problem 1 from happening. Now will your trans fail? Probably because of the design problem.

what year and how many miles do you have?
Acura will offer goodwill warranty coverage on most 03s `not in VIN range`,

but if you have a 99- thats past limits of time now, 7years plus 9 months since first date sold is the official cutoff

So acura lied to me in telling me that I have the new re-designed transmission in my car since it is not covered under warranty the extended warranty? They said the issue would not occur for me since I did not have the extended warranty and my transmission is a different brand. My car has 52790 miles on it and I just got it a couple of weeks ago. I did purchase an extended warranty with it for 3 years.

I feel no issues during placement of 2nd to 3rd gear. Only sometimes when I first start my car it takes a split second maybe under 1/4th of a sec to apply the 1st gear. then all is good after that. If I drive it for 10 min or so then come to a stop and I dont notice any hesitation to first gear.

^^^^^ Acura is partially right. You have a re-designed tranny in your car. But the fact is that historically the 2nd Gen. tranny had been "re-designed" or improved by Acura throughout the years. You just may not have the last edition of the "re-designed" tranny.

Thank you all for your answers so far. Edward how concerned should I be that I just have the oil jet kit installed and my transmission does not fall under the 1st gen tranny's within the vin range for the warranty extension?

tranny

I have a 2003 Tl-type s and at 32,000 miles i had the oil-jet installed on my TL. Now I have 75,000 miles and i am experiencing a shutter in the transmission. Usually inbetween shifts 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th. Other times it accelerates with no problems. While sometimes it does and does hard. Rpm's go from 2200-3200 in blink of an eye. slips. Going down hills if you tap the brake it downshifts hard then shakes. It feels like the car is falling apart literally. Acura recently looked at it and sad my tranny is toast. They are paying for 75% of it and giving me a 3 year 36,000 mile parts and labor extended warranty. I have to pay around 700-800 to get it fixed. Tranny is being shipped today. Car is getting fixed next week

Sorry, no one, not even Acura, can answer your question. Even if you can find the failure rates, they are just statistics. You may be the lucky one, or you don't. Nobody knows.

If i have to sell it I will sell it I did find an 04 tls with 18K miles on it clean for $1700 I bought my car at 52K miles an 03 tl for 12,800 tax, title, tag and all so maybe I will trade it in and pay the $3K difference for the 04 tl

the finance guy at the dealer i used to work at told me that the extended warranty we sold cost 800. for the basic engine/trans major mechanical parts. whatever he sold it for after that he go, i believe, 35% of it. so he woulda made $350 off you. not to mention however many points he woulda tacked on to the interest rate you qualified for.

Replace your transmission with a refurbished/rebuilt BAYA from a '06-'07 Honda Accord (look on ebay).

That is the only way out of this problem.
