Oil or trans leak near rear main seal?
2003 TL type s 258k miles. I have a red fluid which I believe to be transmission fluid leaking from above the inspection plate of my rear main seal which appeared after replacing the oil pan, valve covers bolt seals and cam cover o-rings fron and rear about 2 weeks ago. I also drained about 2qt from the transmission from the drain bolt. I 2x checked the drain bolt, and the two 10mm bolts under the inspection plate, which were wet, but the flywheel was dry. I also checked the pcv valve which was stuck, cleaned it ana now it rattles along with the fresh air hose between the throttle and air filter. What else could be the reasons for the leak while I continue to monitor it. The leak is only a few drops enough to wet the bottom of the transmission and the ground. Here's a pic of the bolts and dry flywheel.
Should my oil pan gasket rtv have included the side of the pan where it meets the transmission?

clean the area, if the PCV is working, hopefully the leak disappears. Report back to see if the leak continues

Are you sure the fluid is red?
it could also be that o-ring inside the rear main seal cover plate; they go bad over time and leak. I currently have this same problem...
here's a similar thread (see post #6):

I think it is motor oil on 2nd check. If it's that o-ring, then should I just live with it monitoring oil level, until a transmission failure or upgrade to swap in a new plate with the o-ring and main seal built in? I put in some leak dye to confirm it the motor oil too. Here's the bolt wet before cleaning it dry.

I'm not too deep into all the forum topics yet, but I've seen that AV6 swap mentioned several times. What are the bonuses of doing it and is there a DIY that rebuilds it so it won't fail soon b4 installing it?
