Oil filter question

Oil filter question
I know this question has probably been beaten to death, but I did do a search and couldn't find a definitive answer on this. Anyways, I got my 03 TL-S w/ 38K on it about a month ago (for $19.1K!), and the previous owner changed the oil with Mobil 1 synthetic but when I looked at the oil filter, it was one of those cheapy Frams. I was thinking about switching to either Mobil 1 Extended Performance or Amsoil and doing 15000 mi/1 year oil changes. If I were to do this, first: is it recommended for my car, and second: what kind of oil filter would be best for this application? Price isn't really a big concern since this is only going to be a once a year cost. Thanks in advance!

I was told that the $1/$2 Fram filters are basically paper filters and don't filter/hold up very well in the long run. I was reading and some of the filters that came up multiple times were the Purolator Pure One filter and the oversized Mobil 1?

If you see the construction of a FRAM filter vs a quality filter you would be shocked at the difference. If you plan on 3000mile OCI then Fram will do the job but IMO that is a waste of money and synthetic oil. Here is a site that has exposed several oil filters internals.

k&n, mobil1, purolator pure one, denso all amke quality filter usually between 10-16 bucks a pop, but hold and have a much higher flow capacity. If using full syn oil go with a higher grader filter or you are wasting valuable quality and expensive syn oil.

If you really want the most for your money..try advanced auto part's filter...its built better than the regular fram and is less cost. best value for 3-5k changes

I also think our engine is so easy on oil...(usually the RPMS are in the 1800k-3000k) that the filter does not need to be so big or built well. Toyota engines and Nissans are much harder on oil

1800-3000rpms. I usually am between 2500-5000rpms. I love to step on it! I just hate Fram products, so I stick with one of top filters I mentioned above. If you use mobil1 full syn extended peformance OCI should be 15k if you use a top notch filter.

My son, Mr. 99 Civic Si, turned me on to the oversized Honda S2000 filter (15400-PLM-A01). It costs the same as the stock filter used on most Honda products, including the Acura TLs, but is fatter and hold a bit more oil.

Guys,
Standard sized filters do just fine. Mobil 1, K&N, Purolator PureOne, Amsoil, Wix, Baldwin, or Napa Gold (Wix) are all good choices in the "high-end" category.

I'm running Syntec through a Bosch filter. I can't remember who manufacturers the filter for Bosch, I believe it is the same company that does them for Mobil (Wix?).
Anyway, I find it is a nice comprimise between the Mobil 1 filter and the lousy Honda/Fram filters.

The easiest way to answer this question yourself is
1. Go to a filter site
2. Look up the NSX and jot down the filter part number
3. Look up the TL and see if it's the same part number

The dealer is so textbookand they still get their info wrong. Here are two examples just overheard advisors talking to customer.
V-Rated Tires = 149mph limit vs. W-Rated = 145mph limit.
This was the advisor's explaination. The higher the speed rating the less likely the tire will lift off the ground at higher speeds. The real reason for different speed rating is for centripetal force on a tires tread. The has a greater likelyhood to seperate from the tire if it exceeds the speed rating.
Second: He told me my tranny holds 11qrts of fluid. It is actually a little less than 8qrts.
After hearing that I didn't need them to tell me. "Only use the Honda filter made for my car. That filter is for the NSX only." Its best to go to Acurazine forums where I can get much more accurate info.

It's not the same part number I already knew that. I think a regular poster said the NSX filter does fit. I just couldn't find the post. Was looking for help. I wouldn't be surprised if someone browsing the forum is currently using the filter.
