Oil Filter help?

I have always gotten the acura oil filter for my vehicle which is the blue honda one which is a lot skinnier and tall as opposed the fat short ones pepboys and autozone says that it is. I put the short fat one in it fits but it I wanted to make sure if its just me or what? I got the m1-104 Oil filter because the dealership was too far n I was strapped for time. Help!!!! I haven't put oil in it yet incase I'm wrong so I can just take it out n put the right one in n fill oil.

That's the model no. for a Mobil 1 oil filter and that is the correct one for an 02 TL-S. You can also use the 105.

There is the issue of the longer filter being more vulnerable to attack from road debris, there is not a lot to protect a key engine componet from damage.

I use the K&N oil filter for many reasons including heavy duty case and a 1 inch nut on the end to help remove later.

Saw a slip-on filter cover/oil cooler sleeve in jcwhitney, may be a good idea for extra protection
We get lots of gravel trucks dropping samples on the road and the ever popular exploded semi truck tire remnant

Dodging debris is an art form!

I have never had a problem with debris hitting the oil filter . Either oil filter should be fine.

You have such nice roads in Nv, crossing the border from Ca. and we feel like we have entered Futureworld!

Here, I am constantly under assualt by rocks, tire snakes and other debris.
Have I ever had an oil filter puncture on the street, no...on the track- once, then we put a wire screen under the filter to protect it.

Have I seen odd things get flung up on the road that can enter your engine or steering assembly- every day every single day and more of it each day, just look at the front end of most cars! Imagine that same rock that cracked a windshield getting under the front end

All I am saying is many people are using the 11 dollar Mobil 1 filter, I personally like the K&N at the same price- for its stronger structure and the easy-off nut built onto it- makes removal a snap.
Heat is the enemy of all things mechanical and anything you can do to reduce temps by 20 degrees is a big help.
Doesn't it get a bit warm in Vegas?

So the K&N reduces heat?

Honda changed over to the tall, skinny filter in 2003 on the majority of their line-up. Because the 2nd gen TL ran thru 2003, the parts book will tell you to use the tall filter for an '03 TL and the short filter for a '99-'02 TL. Both filters are basically the same internally, so you can use either one.

The temp reduction I refer to would be from the Cool Collar sold at jcwhitney. It slips around the filter and has raised fins like a motorcyle head- to dissapate heat- about 20 bucks -reusable and adds another layer of protective metal around the filter

The K&N filter is actually built to stronger standards than most types, I am just the- lets do it a step better- kind of guy

I've been using M-104 for a long time, its a very well constructed filter. The outside looks very hard so I'd imagine it will protect well for road debris. The advertisement claims that it withstands up to five times the normal system operating pressure. So it would make sense that the canister is very hard to break.
Mobil 1 also introduced a new line of oil filters, called Extended Performance, here is a linkMobil1 oil filter

Initially I've been using Honda oil filters, but after reading some negative reviews about them I switched to Mobil1. Mobil1 oil filter is defiantly among the best on the market.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????
What kind of SCIENCE is that
You link a website that doesnt even give ACTUAL filtration particle size numbers- 92% efficient is not a MICRON size.

Look at a K&N and a Mobil side by side at the store- for the same price, and just read the info on the k&n box then look at the filters
That should be enough to make you a new fan of technology enjoyed on race cars and airplanes for DECADES Go American Made K&N Yeah!!!!!!

And lets also figure the statement of -withstands 5 times NORMAL oil pressure-
Guessing a high oil pressure of 50 psi , thats only 250 psi burst strength

The K&N is 550 PSI burst strength ( depending on model- but over 500 )

So that would be.................
twice as good!

I used WIX oil filter and has been very satisfy with it. The size is a little bigger than the factory filter but not as big as the K&N or Mobil-1.

Speaking of size, you should have seen how little Nissan oil filter is on 5.6L engine. I have a Nissan Armada and the oil filter is very small and skinny. Regular filter range won't be able to fit the filter because it was so small. From my research, this filter actually very efficient.

My $0.02

You will find this interesting reading. Check out this link. I decided that I was not longer going to pay the HIGH price of a filter at the Acura/Honda Dealership. Over $7.00 for a filter and switched to STP or Purolator. Bout 1/2 the price of the Acura filter. 3.50-4.00 per.

Mobil1 oil filter has 99.2% percent efficiency rating under SAE J1858 Multi-Pass Efficiency Test.
Mobil1 oil filter is made by champion labs and very well constructed and made in USA.
I visually compared a canister of Mobil1 filter, and it feels much harder than any average oil filter.
I read that K&N are good if you race, but might not be the best choice if all you want the extended drain intervals.

& the direction this thread has gone.
You guys act like the stock location is dangerous and need a "Heavy Duty" filter. You guys are also acting like we need a filter that can handle Super Duper PSI. Just buy what ever filter you feel like. They all do the job the motor needs. Some read into tests WAY to much.

My logic says any thing under the car is subject to possible Foreign Object Digestion or FOD

So I like a brand of filter for my reasons, all mechanical-scientific-technically backed

Its not about high OP in the car, its just about overall construction.
I have cut open oil filters on cars and airplanes. If you have not done that, your visual inspection and thoughts on quality are just a best guess

And besides, that 1 inch nut looks really cool!
