oil changes for leased vehicle

hey, probably a dumb question...

if you've got a lease, does changing your own oil violate the lease agreement?

i know i can read the agreement myself, but im at work and just looking online at the griots garage oil extractor. it looks cool, but i'm wondering if i have to have the oil changed by acura since its a lease.

any help is appreciated.

no, it does not violate the agreement. just change the oil yourself and save a few bucks.

that griot's thing is like $100. for that much, I'll climb under the car to switch the oil - gotta go down there to replace the filter, so I might as well save $100 and just unscrew a oil pan bolt while I'm down there imo

Two things about your lease

I too am leasing (almost done) and keep two things in mind when changing your own oil:

1) At the appropriate intervals, the stupid "maintainence" light will come on. This is due to the computer showing that the oil needs to be changed. You may find it annoying, but it is no big deal.

2) The computer will make note of the changes/intervals, and the dealer may check it when you turn it in. They may (and I stress, MAY) ask for paperwork/recepits to show that you changed the oil regularly. Receipts for the oil and filter from a store WILL be fine. I doubt that they will ask, unless there is a problem with the engine.

When I went to the dealership for a warranty issue, the service Manager told me that they rarely ask for evidence. He said they don't care that much about it. Just an FYI!

tlwiz...appreciate the info.

isnt there someway to tap into the ecu with a pda, and clear the error code, which would turn the light off? i'd like the maintenence light to work, just in case there is a "real" problem.

THANKS!
