oil changes
When I bought my TL (2002 non-NAVI), they said to bring it in at 3750 mile intervals for oil changes and they would give me every other oil change free (worth about $25). I thought - good deal. Well, I am at 3700 miles and called for an oil change appointment today and they said - "Oh, you don't want to do that. Acura put out a bulletin on all 2002 TLs stressing how important it is that you let the break-in oil stay in for the first 7500 miles". He said something about a mixture of synthetic oil and additives being in the oil from the factory. I said OK - I'll wait then. So then I asked him what interval should I come in after the 7500 mile interval - he said 7500. He then proceeded to tell me that Acura is saying now that on their newer cars, the 3750 interval is not necessary unless you live in the desert. BTW - their 7500 checkup runs $125 and included things like oil change, rotation and balance, and a few other things. He said, they would still honor the free oil change every other service interval - amounts to a $25 credit or a $100 bill rather than $125. On the one hand I like the interval being longer because it's more convenient - on the other hand I worry about waiting too long and causing harm to the engine. What do you folks think about all of this? Is this a crock or what?
nevermind ...
I have to slap my self first on this one - this has already been posted several times. I just saw the SEARCH function and did a search on oil and got a bunch of posts on the same topic. Sorry!
If you drive in stop and go traffic a lot, I suggest changing your oil every 3000-3500 miles. But if you are one of the few people that only drives on the highway, then 7000 miles is fine. Hope this helps you.
Personally, I changed my oil every 3K miles because I am in a lot of stop and go traffic.
