oil change.

i am due for a oil change soon and i was planning on taking her in for a change at los gatos acura, cause i have some warentee work that need to be done also.

i was gonna bring my own oil and filter in with me, they said they will charge 22.00 for the change if i brought my own supplies in. Seem reasonable?

also i want to get mobil one oil and filter. what grade should i use? and what size filter?

should i go synthetic? i have about 13,000 miles. and if i do go sythentic do i need to do anything prior to the change or is it like any other oil change?

It is beyond me why anyone would go to a dealer for an oil change pay 22.00 and have to bring their own supplies when I get my oil change done for 21.00 bucks and bring nothing but my wallet. Oil is oil, so I get Penzoil or Quaker State instead of Mobil. I have 87,000 miles on my car, have done every single scheduled oil change and kept every receipt. I put 44K in my engine every 15K or so (16 bucks a can, not the 26 the dealer charges) and have my engine power flushed every 18K or so(49.99). My engine runs like new and I have never stepped foot into a dealer except for warranty work. They charge a bloody fortune for everything and they are the worst mechanics I have come across.

All this of course is IMHO.

IMuHO, I completely disagree with MH...

I'm also lazy and won't bother changing my own oil. I bring in my own oil and filter, and get charged $9.97 )includes tax) for the labor...

I use synthetic RP and an a/m filter, change about every 7500 miles, and did not do anything special after changing to synthetic...

$22 seems awfully high...

22 at the dealer isnt that bad, i got it done like that once for 18. i would say you have more than enough miles on the engine now to use synthetic, just buy the brand of your liking drain the old and add the new! i use mobil 1 5w30

I just charged $25 for them to do everything... that is here in NY and they charge about $90 an hour for labor.
