OEM single disc cd player

Has anyone else experienced the following:

It is cold and you start your car and put a cd in, but it just keeps spinning and sounds like it is grinding in there, then spits out about 5 min later? (btw, cd's are all original, no copies)

But then, after driving for half an hour or so, it works fine? What could be the problem other than the cold? Is there a way to fix this? It's really getting to me..

I will sometimes have a problem loading the cd's when it's cold outside. but once they are in I have never have a problem. I have 5 burned cd's in mine and play fine when it's cold (i leave them in most of the time though). 6th slot is for something different generally.

Have you tried burned CDs with adhesive labels? If so, how did the player handle them?

I've been considering the purchase of an OEM 6 disc player but I've read a lot of stories about jammed CDs and error codes.

Thats teh difference though. You have the 6 disc, he has the Shitty single disc. MIne did that too when it was on its last leg for playing CDs.

Well worst comes to worst spend a few bucks get yourself an aftermarket unit, since they are so cheap now. If not then just bare with it for now.

i believe the problem is that the single discs laser is not powerful enough to read all CDs which is why i put a 12 disc mp3 compatible changer in my trunk. which means i can have about 200 songs per disc and a total of around 2400 songs if i fill it up, and the unit only costed like 250$ at best buy installed

Aftermarket is the way to go. You can get the stock stereo to sound better, you (with the right headunits) can hook up and control ipods, play movies, play MP3s, etc... I only wish i had stopped fighting with the stock hu much earlier for a aftermarket unit

Well, if I was to go for an aftermarket unit, I was gonna go with a TV(DUAL XDVD8181) or it was the Pioneer 7800 something. I just liked the clean stock look but who knows one of these days I might just take the plunge down aftermarket unit lane if I get fed up with the stock unit. So far I am really satisfied with the USASPEC for the IPOD/another input.

Burned ones work for you? I have yet to play a burned cd in my single disc player.

As for the adhesive, i put one in with an adhesive and it wouldn't come back out. I had to use needle nose pliers to remove it and have been to scared to try putting a disc in there again...so has the 6 disc OEM player been fixed for that? I love the oem look so I'd rather just get one, but not if it is plagued with the same issues...

Hmmm might I suggest the Taiyo Yuden brand CD-R's. They are by far rated at the top and if not the best they are one of the best brands of CD-R's and DVD-R's also. I have tried TDK's, HP's, Sony's and also Ritek I believe and none of them seem to work. If what I've read here in the forums the six disc changer works just fine with the burnt cd's and if anything you can go the aftermarket unit route or just get an ipod and load it up with mp3's and get yourself a lined up connection with a blitzsafe or PIE something or USASPEC and as someone else recommended you can also get a cd changer that plays data format discs so basically you can load up a cd-r with mp3's in data format, which is approximately 200 songs and wham bam your CD-R headache is fixed mam.

if I can't find myself a 6 disc changer, I have decided to just do it all and get a double din touchscreen navi...might as well go all the way through. Has anyone had success with installing a sliding screen in the useless cd holder slot in the non navis?

it due to the cold - if you eject the disk and flip it over you will see condensation on the bottom. It goes away when you car gets a bit warm

While its possible with some that a dirty laser may be causing some problem, most are just a crappy radio.

As for any recommendations, its really up to your budget and what kind of bells and whistles you want? Ive always had good luck with alpine in the past, and have been using kenwood HU's lately and really like them. Mine i have my ipod hooked up to it and have full control over the ipod from the radio, Sirius sat radio (another reason i went with kenwood) plus many other features along with a good EQ (which has made the oem stereo sound better)

I'm having the same problem as well, I just got a 2000 Acura 3.2TL from McGrath Lexus, it has the single disc Cd player and ive had very little success in playing burned CD's even after i burn them at the lowest speed and use Maxell cd's. However, i did purchase an additional warranty and the CD player is covered. Does anyone know if they will replace it with a 6 disc changer or will they replace it with the same kind. And also will they replace it with an updated version that will play burned CD's? Thanks!!

Well your CD player is technically not brokened so I dont believe your cd player will be replaced with anything. Even if you burn CD's at the lowests speed using certain brands of CD-Rs, there still wont be any success. If you want to play burnt CD's from the OEM single disc player, you will have to look for certain brands, which you can search on the forum for threads containing more info and there is quite a bit on this topic. The only brand I used before purchasing something for my IPOD was Taiyo Yudens, which are rated the best for CD-R manufacturers and those you can look for online, its gonna cost alittle more like maybe 20 or a bit less for a stack of 50. If you feel thats a bitch also then like most people have done was getting an after market unit, which is cheap as a fudge.

Hmmm..well suppose I can convince them to change the CD unit, do you know if they will replace it with a newer unit? Well as an alternative, suppose i get a trunk CD changer unit installed by Acura, will that work with my existing OEM unit? Thanks!

i remember when i used to have that problem. im still using my single OEM hu but i installed blitzsafe which imo is much better than dealing w cds and changers.

FYI fujifilm and sony cds worked decently for me BUT it does take a while for the the hu to read the cd especially if u like flipping through tracks.
