OBD code returned by Autozone
OBD code returned by Autozone
Hi
I took my car to Autozone and they connected the compute and gave me the following code... P0401 9EGR Flow Insufficient). Does anybody has had this problem before? If yes what is the estimated cost to fix it.
Thanks
Jeet

PM fsttyms1. He's done it before, and he's the guy to ask.
If you're mechanically inclined, then you could have a tackle at it for a few hours.
Otherwise, take it to the dealership. It's a common problem, so they just might do it on goodwill.
As for an estimate cost -- I have no clue.

its a easy fix if you have a few simple hand tools and a hour to 2 to spend. the dealer will want to bend you over for something easy to do (if you feel comfortable taking a few things off your engine)
if you want more info let me know. ive done it twice now (about every 75k)

Check out my previous post on this subject. I just had this done a couple of months ago and it cost about $250. Basically there is a poorly designed part that allows this system to clog and sets off the light on the dash. If it is truely clogged, you will get decreased gas mileage and you would not be able to pass and e-Check (if applicable in your area). Check with your Acura dealer because there was a TSB about this and they are supposed to fix it under warranty until 80K I believe. To get it fixed, there are two options. You can just get it cleaned out (which ftty explains very well) or you can have Acura use a kit to replace the faulty part. This is slightly more expensive ($350 ish) but is better if you are planning to fix the car.
Sorry for the slightly disjointed response, but I'm in a hurry at work..

it take about 1hr or less for the dealer to do and 450+$$ and for a novice mechanic it would take under 2 hrs and cost him about 8 dollars in carb cleaner.
ive had it happen twice now (each time around 75,000+ miles. the first one wasnt covered under warranty the 2nd one i did my self. (i watched them do the firt one, so i knew it was easy and wasnt going to waste money on having them do it again)
erg passages clogged

Had this problem, also, at 205000 miles ( 2000TL). Did the work myself. Dealer cost was $270.

Make sure you check and see if your dealer will do it for free. If you need to, make them feel bad about the tranny/rotors/seat belt/ whatever else you feel like complaining about. You can get it cleaned, but the problem can come back if it is not fixed.

start off by getting 3 or so cans of SPRAY carb cleaner and acouple small scrub brushes.
if your engine is any thing like the 2nd gen
baisicly you take the plastic engine cover off 4 10-mm bolts. then disconect the battery. they disconect the rubber hose that goes from the air box to the throttle body. continue to unplg any thing that goes to the intake (any plugins hoses) then there are 10 10mm bolts on the top plate (the part that sticks up thru the plastic engine cover) oull that straight up being carefull to not damage teh gasket. then there are like 8 bolts (12mm i think, i cant remember off the top of my head) then you are able to pull the upper part of the intake manifold off (double check before you pull straight up that every thing is disconected) then get your self a nice place to work and start cleaning. (stick a bag over the TB before you hose every thing down like in my pic to be safe)
it sounds like alot but its really easy should take about a hr to do
