Lightbulb NOVA/MD/DC August BBQ,ShockSensor Install Movie

NOVA/MD/DC August meet!

Okay you all asked for it so here it is.

Date August 4th
Location : Burke lake Picnic location A. if you don’t see us there its probably taken so just call me or try area b or c.
http://www.co.fairfax.va.us/parks/picnics/fairnics.htm
7315 Ox Road
Fairfax Station. VA
( I know, I know, I’ll post directions in the park and may be even balloons and arrows)

Start Time 11:00

Events BBQ, Shock Sensor Install, Polarg Install, and Resonator removal.

11:00.Meet (Can show up late)
11:45 Start BBQ
The Shock sensor install will probably go through out the meet so don’t worry even if you arrive late. We have plenty of instructions, helm manuals for both and CL/TLs and people we can call to get help. (Silver Knight) hehe
The install probably takes less than 15min per car.
I will also assist in taking out resonators and installing polarg m6 bulbs for those who want to get that done.

Even if you are not planning on doing anything to your car please stop by and say hi and enjoy the BBQ.

Will try to wrap the BBQ up by 4:00 and then head out to Old town to Catch Rush Hour 2 at AMC Hoffman 22 around 5:00~6:00 (just look for a bunch of cl/tl)

AMC Hoffman 22
2500 Eisenhower Avenue
Alexandria, VA 22304
If you can’t make the BBQ, at least drop by to catch the movie w/ us.

Okay for the shock sensors me or Phi is going to order a whole bunch so we need a count on who will need one. If you plan on bringing your own that’s fine just let us know.
Heres the link for the sensor. Its single stage and 7.95 each we will charge 9 dollar each since we have to pay for shipping.
http://store.autotoys.com/cgi-bin/wf...SINGLE&20SHOCK

Also if you plan to drop by for the BBQ please post here, even if you’re a luker so we have enough food. And also list what foods you can bring.

P.S If you want polargs installed please purchase the bulbs before you come.

Heres my Cell phone number incase you get lost or need more info

The shock sensor is an add on to the factory alarm,
As of now if someone breaks in to your car by breaking the window and steal your stuff inside, as long as they don't open the door the factory alarm WILL NOT go off. but w/ the shock sensor if it detects shock like tampering w/ the door or window breakage or if someone hits your while your parked, your factory alarm will go off.

HORNS AND LIGHTS!!

which I think is much louder and better than other aftermarket alarms since most people ignore those but horns everyone pay attention too.

Try presssing the panic button.

What do you think of this sensor instead? It's still reasonably affordable.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but why hasn't the same jerk that moved my thread about the Seattle meet also moved this thread? Personally I don't think my thread nor this thread should be moved to the Meets section because no one ever browses the Meets section.

What can I bring? Is someone making a list of stuff that are needed? What kind of fuel are we using for the BBQ (charcoal, propane, gasoline)?

Andrews32, you want to hook up and head over together?

Sorry for the slow updates, Phi is currently in the process of making a database so we all can sign up and post what we are bringiing, give us another day or two and i'll promise I'll update everyone.

Nate, Totally agree w/ you. No one ever broweses the meet section, and by the time some one does, the meet is already over.

VtecAnimal, there's a post somewhere on teh acura-cl site and also on this site somewhere, but after the meet, I'll try to caputre the install on mpeg and alot of photo's.

QuietStorm, the sensors are 9 dollars, and install will probably be done by your self w/ help from others.

I'll update everyone soon.

Looks like the biggest meet in nova/md/dc.

Question need rotor replacement advice in NOVA area

I know this is off topic, but since you all live in the same area as I do, I thought I'd post.

My car, 1997 3.2 TL, is at the dealer as we speak. I took it in for the 60,000k maintenance check. They called (as ususal) and said I need new rotors and front brakes, and while you're at it, you might as well have the rear brakes and rotors replaced also.

I just had my brakes done in March! I have logged about 3,000 miles on them. I think the dealer is trying to con me because they are aftermarket pads (either Midas or Meinike did the brake job, I don't rememeber).

I hear some squeeking when I brake, but not all the time. They want way too much to do the job, $500+ for the front alone.

I'd like some opinions on having the dealer vs Meinike/Midas do the job, if it really is needed.

Can you recommend a good Acura dealer in the area, I've been getting the run around with this dealership for way too long now.

Thanks,
LadyTL

Cool another TL-er from Silver Spring. I live only a couple of miles from that intersection. We can meet up there (maybe near the Giant) and head over together. I think Andrews32 is also pretty close by. Let's see is we can get a mini convoy to the meet.

ldyTL, rotors typically last a heck of a lot longer than 60K miles. Unless the rotors have warped and have been resurfaced a number of times, you really shouldn't have to replace them so soon. Now, pads can wear out pretty quick depending on the driving you do. As for the quality of the Midas/Meineke products, well, I'll reserve my comments about them. But the squealing can come from the brake wear indicator which means the pads are pretty much worn.

$500 for replacement of the front rotors and pads from the DEALER is about right (figure about $300 for rotors, $100 for pads, $100 for labor ... I'm guessing). Personally, I think it's rediculous to pay so much that's why I replace my own pads and rotors. So I can't really recommend any good Acura dealers around here.

Why don't you come to the BBQ? Some of the TL/CL guys might be able to help out.

Radley Acura is pretty good. Try them. Before you let them do anything, take the car to a brake shop and pay them 10 bucks to just check them. If you have your reciept from the brake job, take it in with you and ask to speak to the service manager. Ask home to show you why the brakes need to be replaced. And then when he cant, b/c there is nothing wrong with them, or he tries to make some **** up, show him that thw work was just done. THis happend to my friend with his mercedes. Since he didnt get his suspension bushings replaced at the dealership, when he took it into the shop for something else, they tried to tell him that he needed new bushings. He asked the manager to show him which ones need to be replaced. They went and looked and the damn bushing still had the sticker on it. My friend made a big stink about it, told the manager that what they did was agianst the law, and that he planed on reporting the service manager to the Better bussiness bureau, to Acura, to the general manager, to the local news paper and news station.... Bla bla bla. He got pretty much whatever he wanted from that dealership from that point on, and barely had to pay anything. That is what I would do. They cant afford to get caught doing that ****, and they cant afford the bad press. Make a stink, they will retract and get really nice really fast.

Thanks for the quick response.

The dealership in question is Radley Acura, and I don't think they have been doing a good job in my case. The service person there basically said b/c the pads on the car are aftermarket, they want them replaced. The front pads apparently have cut into the hub of the rotor and the rear pads are ok, but have the potential of doing the same; so they want to replace those pads as well.

The rotor have never been resurfaced and the service person is saying that they can not be b/c of the damage from the pads.
I asked for them to show me the repair they are recommending when I go pick up the car, but got the run around about the night manger is going to be busy and may not have the time. This after I've already spent $500 with them today for the 60k service!

So, tomorrow, I am taking it back to Midas/Meinike to get their 2 cents on this and make my decision from there.

Is there a good foreign car service shop in the area that can do this work?
