not a happy camper

ok so i sent in my 2002 acura tl-p to get a new tranny because my tranny died on me and the d5 was flashing. well acura is ordering a new tranny and it all cover under warranty with no charge. i asked them if they have a loaner and they said no they dont have a loaner until next week and if i didnt buy the car from acura they might not be able to give me a loaner. they are going to have my car for 6 days and i wont have a car to be able to drive around and do anything. i know i am only 17 but even when i got my dad to come in they still said no loaner. i am very mad cuz i need a car to go visit my girl and i am not a happy camper right now with acura. how can a car dealer not have enough loaners to give out argh. oh yea the other day i went into the dealer to check if they got a loaner on the day i was going to send in my car which was today and they said no but they can help me on friday and today some other dude was like no more loaner till next week. can someone help me cuz i really need a car to get around and not be stuck in the house.

Atleast its still covered under warranty, what more do you want? I never had a loaner either when I got mine replaced back in June 05.

Here use this... or this .....Just give it back to me by next week.

How can anyone help you?.....unless someone here owns an acura dealer around your area, there really isn't much you can do. Your dad might be able to get a loaner if he rants enough, and talks to regional manager. Your only 17, they wouldn't give you a bicycle if they had them, too much liability for dealer.

Relax. It's only a few days. You're 17, where do you have to go exactly except for school? Even if the dealer did have loaners, they probably wouldn't give one to a 17 year old anyway.

Well unfortunately there really isnt any thing that that can be done to get you a loaner. Dealers dont have to give you one. Plus your age hurts any effort.

If you got dad to rent a car- they would not put your name on the papers- insurance rules about age, and you were in an accident- no insurance coverage- you are just too young.
Thats 18 thousand dollars they will want for their wrecked rental car- now please

The dealer loaner program is voluntary on their part- and the cars tend to go to owners who are in for a paid service. Thats business. The shop books up fast and loaners come and go as some cars are kept overnight or longer for repairs
Maybe they were trying to be nice and not just say- Look kid- you bother me
you're 17 with a TL and a girlfriend- and getting a free transmission at 80k
just where is your life so bad???

Are you missing any internal or external body parts due to accident or war??
Then sit tight- do some azine thread reading to learn the rest of the things a TL owner needs to know, and plan some good trips in your fine ride with your lady!

Man, there are a bunch of youngsters driving TLs now what's up with that? Iwish I had a TL when I was in high school, I was driving a beat up Nissan pickup, it could be worse for you. Though I think its good for your first car to be something you can beat the shit out of and learn from and not worry about.

Dealer's service departments usually only have 15-20 loaners of various models and they will only give out up to what you drive, I've managed an MDX a couple times but that's only because I know the service manager. But like everyone else said, its because your 17, not knocking your age, but no one wants that liability. Plus a rental agreement is a contract and contracts are easily voidable by people under 18, if someone is dumb enough to enter into one with a minor they can get screwed pretty easily.

I didnt even get my car till i was 18 and the only reason behind that was because my parents didnt wanna pay for it. I had to earn my ride. Because my car is salvaged, if something happens to my tranny, Acura wouldnt even want to pay for it. So just chill little man. you're long from being an unhappy camper

How about you have your girl drive you around? Think about it -- being chaffeured around instead of being the driver ... believe me ... it's not that bad. And you won't have to shell out $$$ for gas. (I was really cheap in HS / college ... but I still girls ... LOL)

Lucky---
Right up until the moment of impact- then it all changes
Not only do you have to pay full value of the rental to the company- they also charge rental fees they would have made while getting a new car or that one fixed- you pay that too
And then since it was a Driving Without Insurance thing- thats actually a DMV and LE issue where they can take your license for 6 months, 12 months whatever they want, especially when it wasnt even your car- so your car being fixed wont matter becasue if you get a driving on SUSPENDED

Never let anyone drive your car who is not on the insurance as NAMED driver, never drive any car you are not positivly covered by your own insurance in.
You could end up buying your friend a new car too.

Returning soapbox to storage space - thank you for listening

even if your dad goes to enterprise... you cant drive the rental no matter what until you are 18.. friend of mine had the exact same problem... but your dad would be able to drive the rental while you drive his car. that is the only way that would work. but since you dont want to spend the money at enterprise, the other alternatives is to use your 2 legs

that is your only way to get from place to place.. its not that hard haha..

Here in Texas they like to revoke licenses until you're 18 for driving without a permit/license/insurance. I disagree with your dad about driving a stick, I think it helps because you have to focus more on the car and your driving, plus it helps you to learn more about the car; engine revs and speeds, etc. Especially these days with people on their cell phones reaching for CDs and doing five other things at once.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think any Civics came with a GSR engine. I knew someone that had one but the engine was swapped from an Integra. That would make that Civic far from stock.

I work at an Acura dealer. We do give out a loaner to ANYBODY over the age of 21 who asks for one in advance (i.e. when you schedule the appt.) or unless you know the GM or someone else important. We also give out higher loaner cars than what you drive, so no not all Acura dealers give only up to what you drive.

However, you're 17, so you will not get a loaner. Now, had your dad scheduled the appt. early enough in advance and asked for a loaner, they could have given him one, and you could drive his car.

Why don't you just take one of the family cars anyway? You act like the TL is the only car in the family.

He's 17 no rental car company would rent him shit, so why should a dealer? The liability insurance is the same issue. Mooch a ride off friends to school if that's the issue.
