Is this normal...?
Hi guys,
I have about 14,000 miles on my car already I just can't seem to remember if this was a normal thing. When I back out of a space and then brake...put it into drive...move forward a little and brake again my brake click. Its not loud but noticable. I don't mean the so called "ABS check" its just a click. After that any braking is silent until say I stop put it in reverse and the brake I get another click.
Hmmmm I am getting the impression that this car is not as bulletproof as I thought.

Hmmmm.
Does it feel like the click happens right when the pads engage the rotor (basically as soon as you hit the pedal)? Do the brakes feel odd at all, rotors warped, etc? Or, does it happen when you hit or let off the gas pedal?

Hey Isaaktnt,
I'm a service advisor for a Lexus dealership and our cars are notorious for this noise you are hearing. We call it brake pad shift and it is caused by the brake pads locking into position. You have most likely noticed it now, because as your pads wear down, the pads are now more free to move within the calipers. I have not really noticed this in my TL-S yet, but I only have 3,500 miles on it. If you take it to a dealership, let me know what they say.

I really think its that brake pad shift thing you mention. My rotors is okay and braking is still smooth. The click happens as soon as I engage the brake. I have also noticed it on the Lexus LS400 but I thought because it was old. When you mentioned that you heard about the problem..was it a problem and did the Lexus delaer fix it? I really don't want to bring it in unless it is a definite problem.
Thanks

Plano's reply covered my first guess. I was just trying to get more data.
Anyway, it's not a safety issue. The brakes will still work fine. It's just more of an irritant. If you can live with it, so be it. If not, maybe the dealer can make it go away. I have not had my TL's brakes apart yet but Acura used to use little shims made from spring steel to keep the pads from moving around like that. If the TL also has them they can probably be tweaked.![EEK!](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Maybe someone with a Helm manual can confirm the presence of the shims?
