Nice kill on Eclipse

My friend just bought a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse V6 w/ stick. We play in our pool tournament last night and after it was over, we all headed over to a local bar.
He had a passenger and I was by myself. We came to a red light and no one was around, so we went for it
Roads were alittle wet, as it had rained earlier. Light turn green and I heard his tires spin and I launched very nicely, my tires spun as well, but just for a second. I had him by a full car length my the time I was in second, and he caught 2nd gear and I just keep pulling away, till it was no contest.

Gave him another chance as he got a head of me, and took a right on another open road. He went in the inside lane, and I went on the middle lane, and stomped it in 2nd gear, I took off screaming by him, he had no chance. I let him catch up and then down shifted to 2nd and punched it (all the way to redline) kept playing with him in 2nd and 3rd, and would let him catch up behind me, then floored it. He just couldn't come close

I was really surprised how much faster my TL was then his car. Granted the factors of him having a passenger and we all know the Driver makes a big difference . I was still very happy.

He got out of his new car with his head hung low and shocked

Nice, Tim. I did something similar in 3rd and 4th with an Infinity I30 a couple of night ago. The guy finally gave up and went the speed limit.

I30 didn't stand a chance. Maybe the I35?

I take it he doesn't care about breaking in the engine. At least he didn't play that card.

Well I had some fun with IS300 auto, and Celica GT-S 6spd as well. I have to say that it was pretty close. Actually the IS300 is a lot faster then what I expected. I test drove the IS300 5spd yesterday. I think it's a pretty fast car. But compared to my 2000 TL. It's not that much of a improvment. Just my $0.02

Oh, and I think that anycar will be slightly faster after brake in. Of course that is if you don't abuse it before it's fully brake in.

Well being the present owner of an 2001 Eclipse GT stick (not for long hopefully!) i can vouch for the fact that these cars are a POS and are not fast by an stretch of the imagination. You can tell your buddy that it is certain that his Throw out bearing WILL go bad by the time he hits 15,000 miles. And when he is hård on the gas when shifting between 1st and 2nd, 2nd will grind like Mitsubishi never heard of the use of syncros in their transmissions. Oh and be sure to tell him that he will probably have to replace his sunroof multiple times as well. Note that I am somewhat less than happy as a Mitsu customer! If your friend would like more information about anything on his car....or wants to hear the complaints of many other people like myself, www.neweclipsefuroms.org is the best place on the net for the 3G eclipses. Just my random thoughts though. (wew! I feel better now that I vented! )
